Lodge Caretaker(s) - Donner Summit, CA

Position Description:
Located on Donner Summit (7000 ft. elevation), 1 mile from Sugar Bowl ski resort in the tri-lodge area, a private lodge of a bay area international organization is looking for a dependable non-smoking caretaker (can be an individual or a couple). This club has a social component that would require the caretaker to enjoy meeting new people and interacting with a variety of personalities, generations of families and friends. This position requires daily maintenance of the property.
Qualifications:
- Basic bookkeeping skills
- Be able to handle billing and make deposits

- Personable and comfortable with interacting with a variety of ages and personalities
- Be able to communicate with the Lodge committee as issues arise.
- Basic handyman skills

- Must provide own computer and be able to check e-mails on a regular basis and reply as needed
- Must be able to lift 80 lbs.
- Must have vehicle suited for the snow

About the Position
Work weeks are Sunday from 3:30 pm - Friday at 9:30 am. Weekday hours off from 9:30 am-3:30 pm. Mandatory All Staff meeting one Friday a month from 2:30-4:30 pm. Weekends off & 7 weeks of school holidays and all Federal holidays off, limited paperwork, little or no driving, housing, food, 95% of medical benefits paid.
Working with the most at-risk adolescents and established on an innovative model integrating excellent academics with evidence-based, trauma-informed practices, We are a weekday boarding school that opened in the 2015-2016 school year with a 5th grade class of 40 students and will have 160 students when we reach full enrollment through 8th grade in 2018/19. The school is currently authorized to expand to 8th grade and maintains the goal of growing through high school so that students will graduate from the academy.
Our mission is to provide students, particularly those who have had or might have contact with the foster care system, with the requisite academic, social, emotional, and life skills to be successful in college, career, and community, and to create an outstanding school that attracts, supports, and retains exceptional and caring people. As a member of the Student Life Faculty, Houseparent pairs will play an integral role in shaping the lives of the students at Monument Academy. Houseparents at Monument Academy work in pairs (either two individuals or a married couple) that reside on property in a family-style apartment and provide direct care to 8-12 single-gender students Sunday evening-Friday morning. Houseparents have Friday late morning until Sunday afternoon off. They also have school holidays off. They are expected to participate fully in professional development days. Houseparents’ living quarters are two private bedrooms with a private bath abutting the family space. The family space includes living room and kitchen area shared with their students during the week.
The Houseparent role is much more significant than supervision. Houseparents will cultivate a safe and caring home environment that is supportive of all students’ social, emotional, and academic development. They must be consistent role models with their words and actions. It is imperative that Houseparents build strong family-like relationships that begin with taking a genuine interest in every student and his or her unique story. Families will set goals together, celebrate successes together, learn new skills together, and overcome challenges together. The Houseparents guide this process and are responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive culture at all times. This includes adhering to the Monument Academy approaches to structuring the student home expectations and systems. The Student Life team is responsible for designing lessons and activities aligned with Monument Academy’s life skills curriculum, scheduling and planning for celebrations and recreational family activities, as well as participating fully in the conversations around student progress and the development and review of students’ personalized learning plans.
Houseparents’ primary responsibilities are when students are in their care from 3:45 pm until 9 am. They have flexible time when the students are in school, although from time to time they may be required to participate in professional development or meetings regarding student progress as needed during the day. Houseparents will report to the Director of Student Life.
It is recommended that for houseparent couples with children that they have no more than 2 small children or 1 older child (10+) of their own residing with them on campus. Whether couples or individuals, everyone should each submit separate applications and, if married, note in the cover letter your spouse’s name and your intent to seek employment together as Houseparents at Monument Academy.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Promote Monument Academy’s core values and model the highest behavior standards for staff and student at all times

Create and maintain a safe and positive family home environment for youth

Ensure that Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports are utilized effectively in the home and are consistent with the daytime structure of the school

Guide students in the development of their independent living skills using the life skills strand of the Monument Academy Well-Being Curriculum

Maintain accurate records of daily activities and medicine dispensed

Manage the day-to-day responsibilities of caring for a home, including scheduling, light meal preparation, and cleaning and home upkeep

Participate in conversations with leadership, teachers, the well-being team, outside service providers, parents/guardians, and students to assess students’ progress toward goals, identify potential challenges, and implement interventions and supports.

Conduct home visits with another staff member as needed

Provide crisis intervention and initiate the proper protocols to ensure the involvement of the appropriate counselors and/or leaders in a given situation

Compensation
Compensation package for each individual is $25,000 (for couples, $50,000). The compensation package for this position includes room, meals during school hours, 3% matching retirement plan, and competitive health care coverage. Salary and benefits are competitive, and commensurate with education, and level of work experience.
Summer 2018 Lighthouse Volunteers Needed - Bakers Island, MA

Seeking volunteer couple to be "keepers" (aka caretakers) at Bakers Island Light Station for the summer of 2018. Property located on semi-remote island in Salem Sound – 4 miles from Salem, MA. Duties include property maintenance (exterior and interior), carpentry, mowing, cleaning, greeting day-time visitors, and assisting with overnight visitors staying in the Assistant Keeper house.
Handyman skills required, and experience with ocean boating necessary. Couples should be active and physically fit to handle the rustic setting. Access on and off the island is by landing on a rocky beach as there is no dock. Free lodging is provided in spacious Keeper’s House. Also provided is a center console Mako 19' motorboat for trips back and forth to the mainland. Occupancy is from Memorial Day to Labor Day - with flexibility to start earlier in May and go later in September. The property is "off the grid" and is powered by solar and propane systems.
The lighthouse property is owned and managed by Essex Heritage, a regional non-profit dedicated to preserving and promoting the heritage of Essex County, MA.

Description of Villa: The Villa is a weekender and summer home to a family or three who live in Monaco. The Villa has 6 bedrooms en suite, indoor and outdoor pool, gym and hammam, Balinese hut, preparation kitchen and kitchen. 2 large outdoor eating areas with Weber barbecues.
We like the villa to be run like a yacht/ boutique five star hotel.
THE JOB DESCRIPTION INCLUDES (BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO) THE FOLLOWING:
- Shutters to be opened by 8 a.m. each morning. Cleaning the villa to a high standard – this should be done thoroughly at least once a week but each day as and when required.
- Changing towels and bed linen at least twice a week.
- Bedrooms and en suites to be given a quick tidy and clean each morning. Checking for toiletries and other necessary items.
- Keeping Inventory of the bed linen and cutlery and crockery and glassware. Updating us if anything broken/needs replacement and organising same after approval. Same with toiletries.
- Ensuring glassware and tableware kept pristine.
- Cleaning coffee making machine once every two weeks.
- Cleaning outdoor kitchen and barbecues and checking for gas requirements.
- Cleaning windows and glass fencing.
- Cleaning terraces if and as required.
- Agreeing menu each week in advance. Preparing menu.
- Purchasing food once or twice a week as required.
- Breakfast baguettes and pastries to be bought each morning and ready by 8.30-8,45 a.m.
- Preparing breakfast (twice a week a full breakfast, rest of time healthy breakfast with fruits, berries, yoghurt, shakes), a light lunch or barbecue. Preparing evening meals (in high season when villa full) full dinner is every other night. Food to be to a high standard.
- Drinks and table service as required.
- Checking for drinks by pool throughout the day.
- Villa has full time gardener/handyman/driver but assistance with his duties as is necessary.
- When no guests we will have couple here plus our 5 year old son and his nanny.
- With guests usually no more than 8 guests for dinner. When children here it is usually with a nanny and they look after children’s food.
- Setting up and clearing table. Drinks and formal table service required but not silver service.
- Drinks to be served before dinner. We usually start eating between 8 and 9 p.m.. Once dinner is finished and dining area and kitchen cleaned if we are staying up later we will serve our own drinks.
- Locking up house and ensuring alarm is on though in evenings if we are staying up later we will do this.
- Occasional airport pickups and driving duties.
Accommodation: one large double bedroom en suite.
A car is available at the Villa for Villa use.
A professional uniform will be provided.
20 minute morning and afternoon breaks plus lunch breaks to be taken as agreed.
Working days: In high season (July and August) 1 day off per week or occasionally at other times if special guests staying. In off season 2 days off per week.
We will be at Villa almost all of July and August. Rest of time we are only back Friday evening to Monday morning. Happy for couple to use Villa facilities when we are not here.
There is a possibility the couple could remain and run the Villa for people for short terms holidays/ management weekends etc. We would renegotiate the commercial terms with the ability for the couple to benefit from the earnings taken from the rental. To be further discussed if appropriate.
