Overview of the job

You will be a supervising adult presence in the boarding house that is committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of our international boarding students and assist them in their daily lives. Weekday hours when on duty are evenings and mornings, and weekend responsibilities will be included.  Our ideal candidates are a couple who is prepared to share the responsibilities.  Candidates can expect a free weekend a month.

Who we are

We are a day and boarding school for students ages 8-20.  We offer boarding spaces for 20-30 students a year who reside on our campus in our historic dormitory.  We value the tradition of our past, the individual humanism of each student and promotes openness to the larger community and world.  We are located in the French speaking part of Switzerland, two hours of Zurich, Geneva and three from Paris and Frankfurt.  We have an increasingly bilingual environment that promotes many languages on campus in the classic Swiss tradition.  Our primary school students (ages 8-12) learn German and English along with their French coursework, Secondary students (12-14) follow a similar linguistic pathway.  Our high school options allow students to focus their studies in French or in English while pursuing the Swiss Matura or the IB Diploma.

Accommodation

Full time house parents will have accommodation on campus with the option to share meals with the boarding students.

Organizational Structure

House parents will work on with housing assistants and teachers to create a comprehensive program for all boarding students.  In addition to responsibilities for living on campus and providing direct support for students, this position will report to the Head of boarding as outlined below with oversight by the Assistant Deputy of school and in tandem with the admissions team.

Main responsibilities of the job

As a leader of the Boarding team, being student focused in all matters with having a proper discerning view of how the boarding program supports the school community at large.

Student Routines

• Wake every student in the morning for breakfast and morning registration and inspect student bedrooms, filling in appropriate paperwork
• Supervise student’s Prep hour in the evenings and Supervised Study at the weekends
• Report student illness promptly in the morning. If emergency attention is required, to use the emergency number or call an Ambulance
• Ensure the smooth running of the boarding house generally in accordance to the student handbook to maintain a friendly, welcoming and happy environment
• Ensure curfew times are kept ; filling in associated paperworks as requested and reporting issues of lateness
• Help with student arrivals, student induction and departures when required

Facilities oversight

• At weekends, to help the housekeeping team with maintaining general cleanliness and tidiness in the boarding house
• Reporting any maintenance issues through the college system
• Assist with laundry requirements of the students
• Issue keys/cards as residence requires
• To ensure a visible presence in and around the premises of the boarding house at all times when on duty

Pastoral Care

• Monitor the student’s welfare and behaviour and report any problems in the residence to the boarding supervisor
• Communicate with teachers related to any student concerns
• Regularly communicate with parents about both positive achievements and ways students need support
• Arrange regular meetings with the students to support them academically, socially and emotionally.

School Community

• Liaise with Programme Directors and Heads of Department as requested
• Attend termly induction and regular staff meetings
• Work with boarding staff and administration to complete an agenda to ensure complete coverage for boarding school students.
• Develop and lead club activities as well as be involved in school side events.

Available Shifts: 

1. Couples who will work together to do Inside and Outside duties. Each person to work 4 days on (approx. 8-hour days), 3 days off. Compensation includes salary of $900/month/person plus full hook-up site. More work days are available if desired.

Supervise (& assist when needed) Housekeeping role responsible for:  Duties include making beds, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning bathrooms and showers for 7 bedrooms and common areas of B&B.  Assisting with laundry and ironing as needed.  Other housekeeping type duties as assigned.  

The couple would work 6 days per week as mutually agreed upon.  If the couple would like the same day off together, we are flexible to try to accomodate that.

Retention bonus is available if couple completes assignment at requested & mutually agreed upon assignment end date.

Wages are negotiable and based on skill set and demonstrated previous experience.
