JOB SUMMARY
Join our ministry in making a difference in the lives of children and youth. Full-time home-parent couples work seven days on and seven days off. Home Parents care for and supervise youth in placement and implement the MCH model of care in homes on the assigned residential campus. Home Parents in the Independent Living program supervise adults ages 18-25. Home Parents must exhibit the intellectual and emotional maturity required to work with youth who have behavioral issues and difficulty relating to others due to developmental delays, mental health needs, and trauma. Home Parents must maintain a healthy value system, including moral and ethical behavior consistent with the agency's mission and core values.
HOUSEPARENT SCHEDULE:
- Seven on, Seven days off
- Mornings: Prepare students for the school day
- School daytime: Attend training or enjoy personal time
- Afternoons and evenings: Extracurricular, chores, meals, homework, and more
- Weekends & Summers: Time for enrichment, recreation, and relaxation.
A home parent's job is similar to a regular parent. While there may be an enjoyable silence in the home after the children leave for school, throughout the day home parents may need to run a child to a doctor's appointment, talk to the school about any issues, run errands for the house or care for a sick child. Once the children are out of school, home parents provide transportation for youth who have jobs off-campus, athletic practice, cheerleading, or other extracurricular activities. They are also responsible for taking the children shopping and planning group outings for dinners, theme parks, or other fun events.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learn and effectively use the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) model of care, along with other evidenced-based trauma informed models.
- Develop a relationship with each youth in care and proactively teach self-regulation techniques and acceptable ways to give and receive care.
- Know and teach youth the MCH Life Skills.
- Use the IDEAL approach to discipline and appropriately intervene with youth who exhibit inappropriate behaviors or who need assistance in regulating their behavior.
- Respect the rights and personal belief system of each child in care.
- Work independently and in cooperation with other child care staff to provide a safe, clean and orderly home for youth that is in compliance with applicable licensing and accreditation standards.
- Supervise youth in care to ensure their safety and well-being and adjust the level of supervision according to the circumstances and needs of the youth.
- Ensure youth have the appropriate clothing, shoes, personal care supplies, and hygiene items needed for grooming, including encouragement and coaching on maintaining good hygiene.
- Help youth express fears and concerns, manage anxiety around family-related issues, and assist in processing daily events, traumatic events and those events related to their placement.
- Arrange for and take youth to the doctor, dentist, and other appointments.
- Dispense and document the administration of prescribed and over-the-counter medications.
- Assist in the planning, ordering, and preparation of healthy meals and snacks in the home.
- Support the participation of youth in spiritual development activities in the home and through services and programs offered by the Spiritual Development staff.
- Support the education of youth in care, participate in teacher conferences and provide assistance with homework as needed.
- Support participation in academic, athletic and social extracurricular activities.
- Ensure that the recreational needs of each child/youth are met, including participation in age appropriate activities in the community.
- Promote age-appropriate independence through instruction and coaching on self-care skills and participation in age-appropriate skill development activities.
- Manage agency funds, resources and equipment, assigned to and for their use, safely and according to agency policy and procedures.
- Complete required documentation to promote safe child care and sound home management.
- Ensure all facilities and equipment are clean, organized and maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working or volunteering with youth, preferably youth from under-served settings.
- This is a two-person job for Singles or Couples who are legally married.
- No more than two dependent children may reside in the student's home. MCH accepts home parent applications that would require minor children to live at MCH who are not in the care of MCH. The MCH license supports children ages 7-17, and requests for children in this age range to reside in home-parent apartments. Any home-parent child 14 years or older will require a background check.
- Abide by a smoke-free and weapon-free campus. No alcohol is permitted while on duty.
- Limitations on pets.
- Valid driver's license in good standing and an ability to become certified to drive.
- Skills include leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, computer, budgeting, flexibility, and persistence.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
- Candidates should demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for students.
- Please note - that both spouses must complete an individual employment application to be considered.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE
Home Parents must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Further education and experience in childcare-related fields are preferred.
TRAINING
Training hours must be completed annually to comply with licensing and accreditation standards, as well as MCH policy. The employee's supervisor may require additional training to meet specific job requirements or enhance professional growth. Completion of training requirements is mandatory for continued employment.
OTHER
Home Parents must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid Texas Driver's License, an excellent driving record that meets the standards set forth by the liability insurance company and Methodist Children's Home, no criminal history, and acceptable references.

Duties vary, but can be a combination of the following:
· Live at the campground from May through September

Position Summary:
Direct Support Professionals are employees hired to oversee the day-to-day activities of the group home to promote the maximum growth of its residents intellectually, spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, and vocationally. Staff guide and train residents in personal hygiene and grooming, caring for their home, individual and group behavior, meal preparation, and other similar life skills. Care of Residents and Home:

Essential Functions Residential House Manager:
- Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which may include companion services.
- Cooking resident meals. Residents are required to have 3 meals per day.
- Train, supervise, and as needed, assist residents with good personal hygiene, and proper personal presentation, and encourage healthy and safe quarters maintenance, organization, laundry procedures and housekeeping.
- Ensure residents follow daily hygiene and grooming routines and aid and training as needed. Redirect and assist residents if not properly clean or dressed.
- Fosters positive relationship between support staff and resident
- Follow guidelines and procedures concerning supervised medication management (training required).
- Food Service responsibilities, including food preparation and educating on healthy and nutritional choices.
- Assure proper training for residents, which may include how to get along with others, selected life skill goals, fire drills, and health and safety training. House meetings can be used as a training session.
- Conduct and document training of residents in the Daily Service Log.
- Transport residents to various appointments, volunteer opportunities, and other services as required.
- Ensure Daily Service Log, for each resident, is updated within 24 hours of providing services.
- As needed, supervise residents during special activities, group gatherings, and off-campus outings.
- Listen to residents who may need to express an opinion or concern and make a referral to management when appropriate.
- Effectively communicate with all staff regarding resident needs.
- Ensure changeover notes are written and communicated during the changeover meeting.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPPA guidelines.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Must be in good physical, mental, and emotional health and able to assist residents and staff, as needed.
- Able to bend, reach, lift, drive, use cleaning supplies, and assist with yard maintenance.
General Qualifications
- Meet all the employment qualifications and pass all background screenings. This includes a Level II and Local background, and drug screenings.
