Houseparent Schedule:
- Nine days on, three days off

Milton Hershey School offers an exceptional educational experience to students from lower-income families who are looking for greater opportunities and allows them to explore their individual interests to the fullest. Houseparents collaborate extensively with students’ families and other MHS staff to foster student success and build a community of caregivers. They also handle responsibilities such as driving, administering medication, budgeting, reporting, etc.
Houseparents are responsible for all aspects of student development including spiritual well-being. Today the community is made up of a large diverse, population of students and houseparents from a wide range of backgrounds and faiths, united by a shared commitment to the School’s values: commitment to mission, integrity, positive spirit, and mutual respect.
Houseparents are first hired in a flex role in which couples provide coverage in different student homes until they’re assigned their own home.
Benefits:
- Salary of $42,903 per person (a total estimated compensation package of $150,000 for you and your spouse that includes housing, meals while on duty, utilities, comprehensive benefits, and a combined pre-tax salary)
- Relocation assistance and paid training are provided.
Qualifications:
- Experience working or volunteering with youth, preferably youth from under-served settings.
- This is a two-person job for couples legally married for at least two years.
- Both spouses should be age 27 or older.
- No more than two dependent children may reside in the student home.
- Abide by a smoke free and weapon free campus. No alcohol is permitted while on duty.
- Limitations on pets. Only fish or one dog of approved breeds permitted.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing and an ability to become certified to drive.
- Skills include leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, computer, budgeting, flexibility, and persistence.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Candidates should demonstrate a high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for students.

Salary:
We offer a competitive salary starting at $60,000 to $70,000 per year to start (depending on the cost of living in the area where are placed) for our Assistant Management Team. However, each person will be paid their own individually portion of the aforementioned salary.
Accommodation:
As this is a live-in position, the accommodation provided is a one bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with washer and dryer in the unit. In addition to the apartment benefit, the Assistant Managers are also provided with all utilities paid including basic cable, unlimited parking, and as well as all meals included. In addition, we offer relocation assistance and encourage all applicants who are open to relocation, to apply.
Healthcare and Other Perks:
We offer a competitive salary and a benefit package that includes paid time off and the opportunity to elect healthcare, dental, vision, prescription plan and disability benefits; as well as life insurance, a 401k plan with company match (or RRSP in Canada) and an employee assistance program.
Schedule:
Our Assistant managers work five days per week with two consecutive days off and a rotating on-call shift. We also offer paid time off including holiday, vacation and sick time.
Training:
Complete, hands-on training is provided for Assistant Management Teams, however, previous experience in a similar role is an asset. People management experience is preferred. This position is designed as a training and development role and the hope is that our Assistant Management Teams will aspire to become Managers of their own Gracious Community within a short training period.

- Ensure compliance with property management regulations and fair housing laws.
- Periodically assist with preparing new manufactured homes for occupancy, by obtaining bids for work to be performed, and showing homes for sale.
Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Perform landscape upkeep of common areas, including landscaping, removing debris off streets and sidewalks, hedge trimming, trash removal, and snow removal during winter months.
- Monitor and maintain the operation of sewer lift stations, ensuring proper functionality and addressing any issues promptly.
- Manage the opening, closing, and daily maintenance of the outdoor pool, including water quality checks, cleaning, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Ensure timely repairs of buildings, irrigation systems, fencing, entryways, playground, RV storage areas, parking lots, and other community amenities.
- Conduct regular property inspections to ensure all areas are well-maintained and identify any areas requiring attention.
Qualifications:

The residents operate a 60,000 square foot greenhouse business where bedding plants and hydroponic tomatoes are grown for the stores and farmers market.
