Couple Needs Assistance with Small Motel - live & work in a small, mountain town at a beautiful, riverfront setting!! - Bryson City, NC
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Are you our perfect couple? That’s what we need…we’ve used hourly help and that doesn’t meet our needs, we have to find another couple to share the workload at our motel (cleaning, laundry, and office work). My husband and I have been running it by ourselves with minimal help. It’s doable, we just don’t get a break, can’t get away to family events, etc. We will continue to take care of all banking, bookkeeping, and behind the scenes work, as well as covering your days off (2 per week) and being back-up. We also handle any night-time calls when the office is closed. We just need someone else for a lot of the day to day work.
This is a description of the “perfect couple” for us:
-You must be able to pass a background check & drug test!!
-You must be reliable, we absolutely have to be able to count on you being there and available when you say you are!
-You must want to live in a small mountain town - no nightlife to be found, but fishing is on site!
-At least one of you must like to clean and clean well, with attention to details
-Gotta love laundry!
-Can communicate well in email and on the phone
-Can be polite and professional but firm enforcing our policies
-Social, but really a bit of a homebody
-Know how to do basic home maintenance, especially plunging toilets
-Comfortable using a computer, you don’t have to be a whiz
-Absolutely no drug use, not even if legal, social drinker only - non-smoker preferred
-If you see something that needs to be done, you just do it
-One of you must enjoy some yard work, weeding and trimming mostly
This is a small motel with 11 rooms and 2 free-standing units. We live close by, you will live on the property. The motel opens for the year on March 1st and we would like to have someone here a little before that if possible. You will live in a house on the property, it's a normal 3 bedroom & 2 bathroom house where you will have a lot of private space. We will need access to the guest bathroom when you are off work but won't enter your private rooms. Your days off, except for rare occasions, can't really be on weekends. This will start as a monthly contract with your housing and utilities coming from the paycheck. You should get about $1400 per month in pay after those deductions. This is assuming 2 people are each working about 25-30 hrs each week, you will work less in spring and fall but more in summer. Each month you will also get a bonus related to monthly occupancy levels...unless something crazy shuts us down (like COVID did), this is always $300 or more.
Living on premises, you will need to open the office at 9 am and start cleaning at 10. You will be expected to clean 5 mornings a week and will be responsible for up to 6 units. If there are more than 6 to clean, at least one of us will come to help too. You will be responsible for covering our office from 3-9 or 10 PM 5 days a week (hours change seasonally); this is mainly answering the phone and checking people in. The office is attached to your home so you can do what you want- just always keep an ear out for the doorbell. Some days there will be zero customers or phone calls, but you have to be available! We don’t care whether one of both of you learns the office work and cleans, if one does that and the other does some maintenance and yard work, fine by us. We will even consider an individual, but I think this is best suited to a couple. We will ask for a committment for the remainder of 2024, you're expected to vacate the home one week later if you do not plan to stay with us in 2025. If all goes well and you sign a contract for the next year, you may stay in the home through January and February, but the motel will be closed and there is little pay offered for those months.
