This is three month live-in position, March - May, in floating off-grid cabin 27 miles east of Vancouver Island by boat. We are looking for a couple to live-in and work on various wood working and general maintenance projects in preparation of our 2024 tourist season. Work includes pressure washing, housekeeping, woodworking, firewood stacking, as well as general caretaking of cabins. Internet use and cabin accomodation are all provided. Our lodge and cabins are only accessible by boat or float plane.
Ideal candidates must: have carpentry skills, housekeeping skills, be physically fit, agile and healthy, be familiar with wood heat and off grid living, content with long periods of isolation as we are 27 miles by boat from the nearest town.

The Opportunity:
We are in search of a passionate individual, couple, or family to partner with us. The role extends beyond traditional farming responsibilities to encompass comprehensive management of the homestead, with a strong focus on establishing a self-sufficient and resilient lifestyle. As part of our farmstead, you'll not only contribute your skills but also have the opportunity to share in this lifestyle.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and implement permaculture farming practices for the homestead, taking full advantage of the pastures, ponds, and forest.
- Procure and prepare site for the introduction of livestock, including cattle (meat steers and dairy cow), poultry (laying hens and meat birds), and potentially other livestock
- Develop passive irrigation, fencing, and rotational grazing systems
- Manage day-to-day farm operations, including planting, harvesting, routine animal care, milking, and seasonal processing
- Manage annual kitchen and production gardens, ensuring their health and productivity
- Establish perennial food forest
- Implement cover cropping, no-till farming and permaculture practices.
- Minimize pesticide use and explore natural pest management techniques.
- Maintain and repair buildings, equipment, and infrastructure as needed.
- Handle year round maintenance projects, including weather-proofing, plowing, shoveling, landscaping, trail maintenance, woodlot management, long-term food storage systems, etc.
- Collaborate with our family regularly to ensure the farm aligns with our vision and goals.
- Coordination with external vendors, partners, and suppliers as needed

- Responsible for waste control and assisting with maintaining a weekly condemned sheet.
- Check all incoming product according to the invoices to ensure what is received complies with the billing.

- Make sure all food product is labeled, dated, and rotated (FIFO) First In First Out.

Responsibilities:
- Resolve guest problems skillfully with a willingness and desire to understand a guest's viewpoint and to take necessary steps so that the guest is satisfied when they leave. Train employees to do the same.

- Develop the Assistant Campground Manager through leading by example, training, and constructive feedback.
- Assist the Assistant Campground Manager and Lead Attendant(s) in providing constructive feedback, HIGs, and documentation when needed to the staff.
- Regulate shift coverage for optimum effectiveness by scheduling staff according to business levels and labor standards.
- Maintain an accurate computerized guest registration system by monitoring out-of-order sites, maintenance holds, retains, double bookings, and other reservations.
- Ensure Kronos is being reviewed and approved daily, and complete payroll reports on a daily/weekly basis for all CG/CS personnel.
- Oversee accounting procedures: proper bank storage, accurate cashier reports, cash drops, and handling of payments and refunds on the Lodging Management System.
- Managers at Madison Campground and Fishing Bridge RV Park will also handle the Controller functions for their operations following correct procedures as trained by GAO.
- Ensure daily paperwork is completed in a timely manner and accurately, including daily reports, Manager’s Log, EOA form, and guest refund tracking sheets.
- Control the inventory of supplies and forms and ensure inventories are taken prior to orders being placed.
- Assure timely inspections and repair of CG/CS facilities.
- Organize and maintain CG/CS records and equipment in accordance with Lodging Department policies.
- Ensure PCI Compliance guidelines are trained, followed, and enforced.
- Ensure lost and found and Key Security policies are trained, followed, and enforced.
- Ensure that the CG/CS staff is following Xanterra’s environmental policies and procedures.
- Become familiar with and train emergency fire evacuation and safety procedures as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned
