HOURS:                       Averages 36-40 hours per week, generally 6 hours per day, 6 days per week

PAY:                             $16 per hour with overtime for hours over 40 in a workweek. Approximately $2704 per month; overtime is not anticipated and must be pre-approved by supervisor

REIMBURSEMENT:    For mileage incurred while working upon submittal of American Prairie reimbursement form

INCLUDED:                 RV site with free 30A and 50A service provided, landline phone, wireless internet, on-site dump station and potable water

 

START DATE: 

Early season: April 22 to July 31

Late season: August 1 to October 31.

JOB PURPOSE: The Head Campground Host is a key role in American Prairie’s work to encourage public access to the North American grasslands. American Prairie’s visitor facilities serve as basecamps for people from around the world to explore the prairie landscape. This role is an opportunity to serve as host to visitors from near and far in one of Montana’s most beautiful locations.   

The Head Host is responsible for day-to-day operation and oversight of American Prairie’s Mars Vista Campground.  Located along US 191 just north of the Missouri River, the campground is modeled on a KOA facility with a bath house, 4 cabins, 12 RV sites and 8 tent sites.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: 

General oversight of campground 

Create and manage weekly work schedule to ensure morning and evening coverage of campground, 7 days/week.

Manage reservations for cabins and campsites using American Prairie’s online booking system

Model good camping practices at the host site by observing all campground rules and keeping the host site clean and orderly 

Ensure facility systems and processes are followed and suggest improvements to American Prairie staff

Serve as main point of contact at Mars Vista for American Prairie staff 

Visitor monitoring and orientation

Welcome and assist campers with sites or cabins.

Help walk-in campers register and pay using American Prairie’s online booking system.

Provide information on what to see and do in the local area; provide information on local services and communities.

Provide campers with campground rules and policies.

Distribute maps and other American Prairie materials.

Monitor dump station for correct use by RV owners.

Property and facility maintenance

Clean cabins, campsites and bathhouse daily and as needed.

Keep bathhouse stocked with supplies.

Change security codes on bathhouse and cabins monthly.

Assist with special events at the campground.

Monitor the 2-mile nature trail and 25 interpretive signs for any maintenance needs.

Clean campsites by performing minor maintenance including raking tent sites, washing tables, picking up litter, and reporting any damage or larger maintenance needs to the Director of Property & Assets.   

Early season camp hosts provide custodial and basic maintenance services for the buildings and grounds at the Antelope Creek Campground during overnight school programming. 

Perform light repairs and maintenance to structures and grounds. 

Supplies inventory and restocking from sources in Lewistown.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Enthusiasm for and positive representation of American Prairie’s mission, goals and culture.

Genuine interest and ability to talk with people of all backgrounds and cultures.

Ability to use a computer and/or iPad, text on a smartphone, and email.

Ability to problem-solve.

Self-motivated work ethic.

Previous experience as a campground host, preferably in a remote setting.

Basic familiarity with plumbing and electrical systems.

Pickup of supplies or transport trash and recycling to Lewistown or Zortman. 

An ability to use basic hand tools and perform minor repairs is preferred.

1stAid/CPR/AED training (provided by American Prairie if not current).

Must pass a background check.

High Alpine ranch is seeking a caretaker couple for a $60K inclusive package.

The Ranch is located approximately 15 miles south of Angel Fire, NM with altitudes around 8,000 -9000 feet. The ranch is home to a large resident herd of elk and some deer. The family maintains this ranch primarily for recreation and we are looking for a mature couple without resident children to maintain the houses, grounds and property, vehicles and equipment.

Ranch Manager: This position will be responsible for assistance and upkeep of the ranch headquarters houses and facilities. This employee will be responsible for supporting the housekeeper. This position is full time and “at will”.

Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Care for land, fence repair, seasonal shredding, road maintenance, check/repair ranch systems.
  • Farming about 40 acres in hay production.
  • Outdoor maintenance, including outdoor drive and parking areas, exterior lighting, maintain and clean fountain and filters, clear walking paths, including clearing snow in the winter.
  • Vehicle and equipment maintence.
  • Maintain tools, all the barns and shops and other facilities.
  • Assist with duties at the headquarters, including such things as replacing light bulbs, care of appliances, general maintenance and any other upkeep needed.
  • Make sure all propane, gas and diesel tanks are kept filled at required levels.
  • Help with basic security and surveillance.
  • Help haul trash and debris to the dump.
  • Maintain Motorola Radio System that covers ranch.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and capable of operating heavy equipment.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of most construction and electrical systems.
  • Prior ranch land, garden care, welding, freshwater delivery and irrigation/acequia system experience.
  • Competence in maintaining and repairing farm and road equipment, including tractors, shredders, skid steers, etc.
  • Preferred experience in monitoring elk and deer, helping guide hunters and clean animals during hunting season.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in English.
  • Must pass a background check and have a clean driving record.
  • Should be in good physical health.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with occasional holiday and weekend work as needed.
  • Qualify for New Mexico Agricultural Applicator’s license.
  • Communication both promptly and proactively is paramount. Especially emergencies, severe weather events and any all matters involving security and safety at the ranch.

Housekeeper/Domestic: This position is responsible for the main house/private residence, several guest houses and yard maintenance. This position is part time and “at will”.

 

Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Daily cleaning and upkeep of the home, guest houses and some outbuildings.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, including toilets, showers, bathtubs, countertops and sinks.
  • Dusting all furniture, surfaces and baseboards.
  • Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors
  • Making beds and changing towels and linens.
  • Washing dishes and keeping kitchen clean.
  • Knowledge of caring for high end artwork, silver antiques furniture, fine china and crystal.
  • All personal family laundry including wash and fold, ironing if needed, bed linens and kitchen linens.
  • Ability to monitor household supplies and ensure that items needed are stocked and replenished when needed.
  • Empty trash
  • Clean windows, mirrors and other glass surfaces.
  • Maintain guest rooms for visitors.
  • Occasional pet care for family dogs.
  • Clean up after visitors leave, including refrigerators and pantries.
  • Check the plants and watering of the yard when necessary.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in English.
  • Computer literacy. Ability to use spreadsheets in reporting duties.
  • Must have previous experience in caring for high-end homes, furniture and finishes.
  • Experience in caring for laundry, linens and delicate fabrics.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools needed for basic housekeeping.
  • Ability to communicate any concerns with Employer and/or overseer on an immediate, prompt and regular basis.

Any additional education or training in housekeeping or hospitality is a bonus.

Schedule: Generally, day work Monday -Friday. When owners and family are present some weekends and extra hours may be needed. Flexibility is a must. These positions can be physically demanding, especially at high altitudes. Employees should be aware of these conditions that may hinder them to do the jobs and essential functions required.
