Caretaker(s)/Farm Manager(s) for Living History Farm Museum - Kingsport, TN

This position is for a live-on-site Caretaker/Farm Manager for Exchange Place living history farm museum in Kingsport, TN.
Exchange Place is a non-profit, volunteer-run living history farm that seeks to preserve, protect, interpret, and manage the history, heritage, and artifacts of the Gaines and Preston families. It is an educational facility that endeavors to demonstrate the resourcefulness of mid-19th century agrarian life. It is a viable, working, 62-acre farm that continues to maintain the heritage breeds of animals* and heirloom plantings essential to life of this antebellum period. As such, it is a regional attraction that offers tours, traditional period demonstrations, and other public events designed to increase community awareness and showcase heritage arts, crafts, and skills of the Appalachian region.
The ideal candidate will be a person who has a combined love for history and farming. The Caretaker/Farm Manager is primarily responsible for:
• -- Caring for Exchange Place’s animals*
• -- Maintaining buildings and grounds
• -- Providing security for the property
• -- Representing Exchange Place in a positive manner to the general public, volunteers, educators, and all others who come in contact with Exchange Place
This person will work in cooperation with Exchange Place volunteers and will report to the Steering Committee. Strong communication skills are a must. Flexibility and willingness to work irregular hours on weekdays and weekends is required.
Compensation for the Caretaker/Farm Manager is the rent-free use of the Caretaker/Farm Manager’s house. This two bedroom historic farm house is provided for the Caretaker/Farm Manager and his/her immediate family. Within reasonable limits, water and electricity will be paid by Exchange Place. The Caretaker/Farm Manager is expected to properly maintain the house and yard of the Caretaker/Farm Manager house.
* As of 01/01/2014, Exchange Place has two Suffolk Punch draft horses, one riding horse, one Milking Shorthorn cow (that is not being milked), nine sheep (Cotswold and Tunis), two Mulefoot pigs, and two barn cats. A small flock of Dominique chickens is planned for spring of 2014.
And here are the duties the position entails:
SERVICES Animal Care Caring for the animals is the primary duty of the Caretaker/Farm Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Feeding and watering daily.
- Purchasing feed as needed.
- Conducting an "animal check” twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. This is basically a head count and quick health evaluation (is any animal acting oddly or differently, etc.?).
- Letting the chickens out in the morning and putting them back in the coop at night (as necessary).
- Monitoring pregnant animals (as necessary).
- Rotating sheep between the sheep pastures.
- Monitoring the grazing of the livestock; this may require walking them to the bottom pasture or opening gates to bottom pasture.
- Making sure the bedding (where used) is cleaned out and replaced on a regular basis.
- Scheduling routine farrier appointments (about once every 8 weeks).
- Scheduling vet appointments for vaccinations (this is usually done twice yearly), and calling the vet for emergency situations.
- Keeping an updated log of vet visits, wormings, vaccinations, etc., in the Animal Care notebook.
- Worming on a regular basis (specifics to be provided).
- Keeping the livestock fencing in good repair.
- Ensuring that sufficient hay is put up in the barn.
Animal and site needs are to be met by:
Security
- Examining and evaluating the safety and security needs of the property, including monitoring the alarm system.
- Ensuring all buildings and gates are locked at the end of every day.
Maintenance
- Monitoring Exchange Place buildings and grounds and communicating all findings and concerns to appropriate committee chairs.
- Keeping Roseland clean and orderly.
- Cleaning and stocking all bathrooms on site.
- Maintaining proper care of Caretaker/Farm Manager’s home and yard.
- Preparing facilities for meetings and special events, including cleaning and stocking all bathrooms and the kitchen (as necessary).
- Regularly monitoring facilities during events and restocking supplies as needed.
- Maintaining adequate inventories of consumable products, such as toilet paper, towels, soap, and light bulbs.
- Ensuring that kitchen towels and wash cloths are cleaned as necessary.
- Disposing of Exchange Place trash weekly on scheduled collection days.
- Making minor repairs as needed, such as replacing light bulbs.
Communication
- Maintaining positive working relationships with volunteers and committee chairs, assisting with program implementation if requested by the Steering Committee.
- Collaborating with Steering Committee on:
- Use of facilities.
- Maintaining an up-to-date calendar.
- Planning programs.
- Working closely with festival chairs on preparing and maintaining the facility for special events.
- Checking and responding to telephone and email messages in a timely manner.
- Following Steering Committee guidelines for use of the facilities and resources.
- Acquiring approval of Steering Committee for changes in activities, programs and/or events.
- Securing substitute(s) to cover duties as defined in this Agreement when absent for any reason.
- Presenting Caretaker/Farm Manager report at each Steering Committee meeting.

We are looking for an onsite management couple to work at Salt Creek Resort & RV in Lakehead, California, as live in caretakers for our resort with 10 cabins and 7 RV sites on Shasta Lake.
We are a small resort located in the mountains, surrounded by forest on Shasta Lake in northern California and are seeking an on-site management and care taking couple year round. We are looking for a responsible, friendly, mature, and yet motivated couple.
Wildlife and nature surround the resort in a peaceful and quiet setting. This is a place where you can feel a sense of pride and accomplishment as you complete your tasks and are attending to the guests.
As we are located in remote location, the perfect couple should have an entrepreneurial spirit and be comfortable in this type of setting. This is perfect for those who are looking for a new opportunity, perhaps be slowing life down and yet, still have lots of drive and energy to maintain the resort.
We continue to become a favored accommodation for guests and we are a continued work in progress as we are always in the process of remodeling and updating.
Our resort season is Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.
The Managers would be on call through the day and evening hours for guests' needs and to greet the arrival of guests and potential guests; checking guests in and out; showing the resort property and amenities; booking reservations and attending to additional requests along with grounds upkeep. There will also be phone requests for information and reservations that will require being answered or returned within a reasonable amount of time.
This position requires at least one of the two management couple to be on property during the resort season at all times. It would be acceptable (optional), to have one of the team in a full or part time job, which would ideally be flexible enough for him to still help out as needed during the busy season at the resort. As an example, a couple with one partner working as a teacher, with summers off, would be an ideal working situation for this job.
During off season the managers would be responsible for occasional guests and their needs, security of property, upkeep of grounds and any maintenance needs.
Candidates should have the energy to maintain the resort on a daily basis; be available to guests needs; and be able to endure the climate changes and conditions in the Lake Shasta area.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Reservations management (phone and maintaining online reservation system)
Customer service
Purchasing of resort supplies as needed
Grounds keeping
Housekeeping (cabins must be extremely clean)(This is optional, it can be outsourced)
Security
Property management
Human relations with current, potential, and return guests
Knowledge of booking reservations
Pool maintenance and chemical logging
Use of equipment to include lawnmower, blower, weed trimmer, and other maintenance equipment and tools
Helping guests with boat launching and trailer parking at the resort
Lawn maintenance to include seeding, watering, fertilizing; mowing
Daily maintenance and managing of cleanliness both internal and external of common areas and grounds
Electrical repair, plumbing repair, and handyman repairs
Ability to troubleshoot and "figure things out"
Computer (Email, Excel, Word); ability to learn online reservation system and facebook page
Additional duties as needed
Communication with main office
The candidates would be fluent in English and a "hands on" duo with complementary skills to reside on property in a 2 bedroom furnished cabins. Included is ~ electric, propane, cable, internet and onsite laundry. In addition there is a possibility of additional earned income in lieu of housekeeping services for cabins in the amount of $25.00 cleaning per cabin, per turn around that is offered to the selected applicants (or optional outsource service) along with 10% of the gross cabin rental earnings during season. During the off season, a weekly stipend would be paid to the management team.

Host Campers/Work Campers - Lake City, PA

Camp Hosts Wanted at YMCA Camp Sherwin
YMCA Camp Sherwin is located in Lake City, PA on the shores of Lake Erie, between Walnut Creek and Elk Creek Access areas. It is a public campground with tent, RV, Seasonal Sites, and Cabins. Facilities are also available for weddings and group events. YMCA Summer Camp Day Programs also are operated from this site. Camp Sherwin also holds wellness programs, community events and weekend family activities for all ages and interest groups.
Hosts will set an example by being model campers observing all rules and regulations. Our volunteer hosts can be individuals or teams such as a husband and wife. Must be over 21 years old. The schedule will be flexible enough for host to still enjoy the many resources of Erie County.
Camp Sherwin Campground hosts perform a variety of tasks, such as greeting customers, coordinating weekend activities/events, cleaning up cabins/campsites, They will also perform light maintenance work around the campground such as sweeping and stocking supplies at the shower house, mowing the lawn and other yard work, help setting up the halls for rentals, helping with small constructions projects, making emergency minor repairs when possible, informing the Camp Director about potential problems, and various other duties. Hosts need to become familiar with local points of interest and the location where local services can be obtained, e.g. fuel, lp, bait, groceries.
On duty hours include weekend hours and holiday hours and will be mutually agreed between the manager and host. The manager will approve specific duty hours and assignments not to exceed 40 hours per week (total for the couple). We are seeking host campers from May 18 - July 11. (May be earlier than May 18 if the new hosts are interested in coming sooner). Hosts provide their own RV/tent and are provided a free campsite with utility hookups and access to WIFI.

Long Term (Permanent) Help needed - Santa Fe, NM

This is a combination housekeeper/pet caretaker position. You will live on the property and provide work/services in exchange for living quarters. All electric, water, cable, and internet service is paid by property owner. This is not a 9 to 5 "job". A one bedroom, one bath, fully furnished, 2 yr old Santa Fe style, apartment is provided on site. The location is about 1 mile from the beautiful, historic, downtown Santa Fe Plaza. Beautiful sunrise/sunset/canyon views abound. There are 5 dogs that need daily care. The property owner travels extensively but lives on site when not traveling on business. Non-smoker, non-drinker, non-drug users only. No salary or pay of any kind is provided for this position. You must have your own transportation and health insurance. You need to be a self-starter and work well without supervision. You are certainly able to have outside employment as long as the needs of the homeowner and pets are met.
Pet care---Daily feeding, bathing, brushing, loving and typical cleanup. Dogs are Papillions (3 - very small, 5-9 lbs each) and Anatolians (2 - large, 100-120lbs each). Papillions are indoor only. Anatolians are indoor/outdoor, depending on the weather. A few of the five require daily medication. (Homeowner will take care of the indoor dogs when at home). Good communication with homeowner is key to the successful maintenance of the pet routine.
Housekeeping---Professional housekeeping experience preferred. This is a large, 2 bedroom, 4 bath, 3,000+ square foot, Santa Fe style, home. Occasional, seasonal fireplace use/cleanup. Dusting, vacuuming, mopping, all areas of the home as needed, usually at least once a week, depending on the needs of the homeowner. Changing of bed linens, bath towels, throw rugs for homeowners suite, and guest suite (as needed). A professional landscaping company maintains the outdoor areas. Indoor plants will need watering. Occasional hand watering of outdoor plants if the weather is particularly hot/dry. Minor repairs/touch up painting/clothes & table linen ironing, and general help with projects, decorating, occasional errands, as needed. Again, very good communication with the homeowner is key to the successful maintenance of the home. Beginning 03/01/2014.
