House Parents (Married Couples) - St.Petersburg, FL
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
House Parents
SailFuture is a sailing-based foster care agency in St. Petersburg, Florida. We are looking for adventurous married couples who want to help raise teenage boys in foster care into strong and capable young men.
Our innovative model does not look or feel like foster care. We take pride in bringing a different, modern approach to fostering high-risk teens.
House Parents go on expeditions on a high-performance racing sailboat, teach carpentry and mechanics, and live and work alongside a strong co-parenting team.
Our continuum of services includes placement, case management, residential care, challenging sailing experiences, a private school, job training, and behavioral health services.
By working as a family to create a family, we provide a seamless continuum of services that meet the complex needs of the children we serve.
Who we’re looking for:
SailFuture’s house parents are married couples without children who are eager to become parents and role models to 6 teenagers in foster care.
SailFuture House Parents raise children in a team environment. We are on duty at the house 4 days a week, and off 3. We work alongside a Program Director, licensed mental health counselor, a USCG Captain, and Change Agents.
Together we leverage all of our love, strengths, and life experiences to help our teens grow into capable young men.
Twice per year, we embark on 50-day sailing expeditions through the Americas, leading youth through self growth, experiential learning challenges, and service projects.
Meeting the needs of 6 teenage boys is a lot like conducting an orchestra, or ring-leading a circus. It requires an enormous amount of teamwork, planning, and leadership.
You can expect the typical 'parenting' responsibilities: waking the boys up for school, helping them prepare breakfast, and getting them from Point A to Point B. You'll lead workshops and trainings, like helping the boys prepare resumes and get their first jobs.
You'll manage chaotic and stressful situations, like breaking up fights or de-escalating a child who in that moment wants to harm themselves.
Throughout it all, the boys will come to you for emotional support and guidance.
You'll become their support system and their rock. You'll have the opportunity to fundamentally alter their life trajectory.
Responsibilities:
- Lead youth through (2) 50-day international sailing journeys throughout the Americas each year
- Work with mental health, education, and case management teams to ensure consistency across youth’s individual treatment and case plans
- Assist with with job searches and applications
- Teach basic life skills: laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc.
- Home management: maintenance, landscaping, etc.
- Grocery shopping
- Daily room checks for cleanliness
- Nightly bed checks
- Administer and log medication
- Schedule medical and dental appointments
- Assist with general transportation needs
- Assist with school operations and academic instruction
- Assist with job training operations and vocational instruction
- Work with the mental health, education, and residential teams to create individual treatment plans for all youth
- Implement treatment plans and coordinate with all other teams
- Other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director
Qualifications:
- Married for at least 2 years
- No children
- Ready to become parents
- Passionate about foster care and/or at-risk youth
- Team player committed to doing whatever it takes for youth in their care
- Excellent communicator and problem solver
- Passion for adventure
- Sailing experience a plus, but not required
Our Commitment to You:
This will be one of the hardest “jobs” you ever have. Our kids and your colleagues will push and inspire you to grow personally and professionally in ways that few other settings can.
We’re a small organization and treat each other more like family than colleagues. We live together, travel together, work together, and play together.
House Parents leave this role with some of the most meaningful relationships of their lifetime, and invaluable management, leadership, and conflict mediation skills.
Total Compensation: $90,600 per couple per year
Salary: $60,000 per couple
Benefits: $30,600 per year
- $500 monthly health insurance contribution per couple
- 10 days PTO
- Housing Provided ($1,500 / month value)
- Most Meals Provided ($400 / month value)
- 401k with 3% employer match
Caretaker couple wanted for vacation rental management - Veneta, OR
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Long-term caretaker couple wanted for looking after a 6-acre property. Bring your RV and manage the home as a vacation rental while also managing the grounds. Electricity, water, and half-bath are available in a shop on the property. The basis caretaker duties are in exchange for free space for your RV, plus utilities. Additional income possibilities include hosting a vacation rental, B&B meal preparation for guests, and housekeeping.
A small-scale, 1-acre orchard has been started, with a variety of apples, cherries, peaches, mulberries, seaberries, persimmons, blueberries, medlar, figs, and quinces. There is a 1/2-acre fenced area appropriate for a home garden that is in grass right now, with a greenhouse in the center of the enclosure. Anyone wanting to live on the property must align with organic agriculture practices.
The property is close to Veneta and about 20 minutes from Eugene, making it an ideal vacation rental for those wanting to visit Eugene or go to Fern Lake Reservoir for recreation. There is a 3-bedroom/2-bath 2,400 sq ft house on the property for the vacation rental. There are two wells, one for irrigation, one for the house, and any couple staying on the property must be willing to water the fruit trees during the growing season. The lawn and ornamental plants are watered by an automatic irrigation system. The property is set far off the road, so it’s very quiet and private.
Caretaking includes cleaning the house between guests (with rentals to guests adapted for safe COVID practices) in exchange for housekeeping fees. We are keeping storage items in the shop and garage, and we need a responsible couple who want to live in their own RV on the property, keep an eye on the property, water the orchard trees in the summer, clean the house between guests, and provide host services. As described above, there is potential for additional caretaker income via offering meal/B&B services on a case-by-case basis as a guest option. My primary home is 90 minutes away, and I will be visiting and staying overnight at the property about once a week when I am in Eugene for errands (as long as there are no vacation rental guests). If you have one dog you’d like to keep on the property, he/she must be introduced and get along with my three bassets as part of the screening process.
