FEATURED JOB OPENING: 24 Room Motel Managers - Cody, WY
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Dynamic Duo Position: Cody, WY
We are looking for a motivated duo to manage a well-established 24 room independently owned motel. Our motel is the highest rated, lowest priced downtown Cody location. The motel is within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. 10 Blocks from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Located about 1 hour from the East Gate of Yellowstone National Park, Cody was founded by Buffalo Bill specifically to go to Yellowstone. Approximately 10,000+ people live in Cody year-round, but close to a million pass through during the summer months.
Our new managers will be expected to be obsessive about 2 things.
- Hospitality: Our guests have a great experience! You must be friendly, outgoing, willing to provide recommendations and solve guest issues immediately. We want our guests feeling welcome and at home. The motel isn't just a place to stay, it's a part of their destination.
- You MUST be overly focused on cleanliness, presentation and always maintaining the property.
This position is for 2 people. We are a husband wife business. One day my husband said, “Get in the car, Honey, I just bought a motel online in Cody, WY!” We’re from New England. I speak with a Boston accent, my husband has no accent, but does talk A LOT. We ask that the couple applying be non-smoking and not participate in heavy drinking. No pets or children allowed. No single individuals or families. NO EXCEPTIONS, please do not ask. This position requires a mutually supportive, energetic, mature 2-person team, living and working together on the premises.
We pride ourselves on Hospitality ,CLEANLINESS and have maintained a superior customer review. We are in the top 10 on TripAdvisor and have high ratings on Google, Facebook, Booking.com, Expedia and Yelp. Many of our guests have stayed with us before or have been referred to by previous guests. Regardless, once a guest walks through our door, they are to be treated as if they were your friend and or family member. Many of our guests have never been to the area and are relying on us to help navigate it. You will be thoroughly trained and become a local in no time. This will be season 10 for us, but the motel has been in operation for decades. Many people come from all over the US and world to work in Cody for the summer. Our local Chamber of Commerce assists in this training along with me.
The two of you will need to be versatile in managing day to day operations. Your responsibilities include all aspects of running the motel which include assisting housekeeping, cleaning and laundry, maintenance (one of you needs to have handy duties: the ability to fix things which include, but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting), guest check in/out, processing credit card transactions, answering the phone, monitoring email, online booking websites and social media. We use technology as much as we can to manage guest reservations, but you will have some reservations via email, phone or walk-ins. Proficiency with computers, email and internet are a MUST. All the systems we use are user friendly.
You will clean and or perform room inspections while adhering to the cleaning procedures that we already have in place. All rooms must be turned prior to 3PM check in time. While it is not daily, basic maintenance will be necessary from time to time. The duo needs to be in good, overall health to physically be able to make beds, do laundry and maintenance. This is a very physical job, mostly outside as the rooms have exterior corridors and requires groundskeeping (watering flower boxes, mowing small lawn and pulling weeds).
The new managers will live free of charge across the street from the site in our nonsmoking, furnished, 2-bedroom home (you’re responsible for all utilities) paid in addition to a salary of $500 per person (48-hour work week per person), per week, while the motel is open. Should you two decide to stay in the house for the winter, while waiting for the motel to reopen, that is fine. You will still be responsible for all the utilities, snow removal and damages.
The backyard also houses our 4 foreign exchange students, who have their own sleeping quarters, kitchen, and bathroom. You share the backyard and laundry. Last year we were unable to get the workers because of COVID-19, but I’m working on trying the process again this season. I have an intern returning this summer, who lives at the motel, this will be her 2nd summer. I also have an older lady that has worked as a housekeeper with us since we bought the motel.
Office hours are from 8AM-10PM. Sometimes you will need to be available for after hours guests and or urgent hotel need as they may arise. There is a process for late check ins to keep you from staying up all night waiting on a guest. Time off will be an alternating schedule. You will be required to work some weekends.
We are looking for a couple that is honest, energetic, hardworking, business minded, extremely outgoing, friendly and can handle any situation that may arise in a calm manner. We expect you to pay close attention to detail, maintain cleanliness and complete maintenance tasks (knowledge of plumbing electrical, carpentry and painting is a must for one of you). We work hard and along side you, but in return, you will be able to spend your days off exploring Yellowstone National Park, Beartooth and Big Horn Mountains.
Ideally, we are looking for someone to start May 15th or sooner, but not earlier than May 1.
