FEATURED JOB OPENING: Married Houseparent Couple - Portales, NM
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Our ministry is a Children's Home in eastern New Mexico with a history that began in 1919. Our goal is to bring Hope to hurting children and families. Houseparents are on the frontlines of this endeavor. We are currently searching for a husband and wife couple (which may include up to two children living in the home) who feel a strong calling from the Lord to work with children. Prospective couples must have a kingdom focus and a gospel-centered life.
Our houseparents live in provided housing and will be parenting up to 9 resident children.
Just like parents, our houseparents carry a great amount of responsibility. This includes meeting needs such as cooking, teaching life skills, homework help, recreation, etc. In addition, houseparents are to encourage spiritual growth and guidance by leading their household in daily devotions, prayer, active church membership and the demonstration of the gospel in their own lives.
Often, our children have never seen a godly marriage lived out before them. The Bible portrays marriage as a beautiful picture of Christ and his Church. Therefore, before considering this position, a husband and wife should pray diligently and assess their marriage in light of the example they would set before our children. How do you handle frustrations, conflict and challenges? Children need to see their houseparents work these things out in a God glorifying manner.
Houseparents typically adhere to a 16/8 schedule (16 days of working followed by 8 days off). This provides approximately 15 week-long periods off per year. Many of our houseparents choose to use their time off to travel, relax, or pursue other interest.
Successful houseparents will be growing in their Christian walk, flexible, organized, teachable and have a good sense of humor. Our organization desires to provide an atmosphere that fosters and expects spiritual and professional growth in staff. Therefore, our team mentality is “come and grow” with us. We have found that couples willing to embrace this culture of growth are most satisfied in this environment.
Salaries begin at $40K per couple with additional benefits including housing, utilities, food, insurance (medical, dental, life & disability) and 403(b) retirement contributions. Relocation assistance is also available. The children attend public school during the day, which has allowed some of our Houseparents to pursue additional education or seminary training online. We are an entity of the NM Baptist Convention therefore, Houseparents are expected to be active members of a Southern Baptist church.
When asked what would make someone a great houseparent, 6 year old “J” responded, "Someone who will build Legos with me." Because of this, Lego building experience is preferred but not required (he is willing to train).
Feel free to contact nmbch to learn more about this opening or to apply.
