Winter Caretakers - Glendale Cove, BC

We are seeking a Seasonal Caretaker Couple to look after Knight Inlet Lodge, which is a privately-owned floating resort in Glendale Cove, Knight Inlet, British Columbia. The work months run from early October 2020 until the end of April 2021, although date flexibility may be required (start and finish dates). Our Caretaker position is unique in that the winter months offer a high level of solitude and seclusion while working in a remote environment with minimal interaction. The Lodge is accessible by float plane and boat only.
Job Requirements:
- The Caretaker Couple should have a genuine desire to work together and be able to demonstrate having done so successfully in previous positions. Candidates should have a proven ability to work in a remote setting for an extended period of time.
- Experience in equipment, mechanical systems with the ability to monitor off-grid equipment including power, septic, fuel and electrical systems.
- Basic knowledge of technology including computers, cell phones, Wi-Fi, Internet research, record keeping.
- Physically fit with the ability to perform work in an outdoor environment with an ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds.
- It is a requirement to have BC Boaters' License and have experience operating small marine vessels in variable ocean conditions.
- Ideally, applicants will be local and familiar with the area.
- Friendly, good communication skills, organized, responsible, solid work ethic, self-motivated.
- Neat and clean appearance, and drug-free.
- Must be legally able to work in Canada;
- Be prepared to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Salary:
$2,400 per month (total, $1,200/ea.) for a couple.
Discretionary Performance Bonus Eligibility:
A discretionary performance bonus may be available during the winter months, based on General Manager and owner group assessment of the caretaker’s overall attitude and work performance.
Accommodation & Meals:
Included. (This does not include personal items, toiletries, medicines, etc.) Other than getting to Campbell River, your only living expenses while at the lodge will be personal items.
Caretaker(s) are required to develop meal and food supplies plan prior to flying into the Lodge. Fresh produce, fruit and restocking of food will be supplied at no cost every 3 weeks during the winter months.
While at the lodge, the caretakers will be housed in a self-contained room. Bedding, towels and food preparation equipment is provided.
Amenities:
Satellite internet access, and there is a satellite phone for emergencies.
Dates of Employment:
Actual caretaker work dates will be approximately early October through end of April. Caretakers may not have the option to leave the Lodge except for a serious emergency. In the event of an emergency, the General Manager will make all reasonable efforts to safely accommodate the Caretakers, depending on the nature of the emergency. The General Manager must approve any additional planned multi-day leave from the Lodge by the Caretaker(s) during this agreement period.
Transportation:
We supply transportation by float plane from Campbell River to the Lodge in the fall and back to Campbell River in the spring.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties of the position include but not limited to the following:
- Provide an on-site presence at all times to prevent the facility from being damaged or vandalized;
- Monitoring of off-grid systems that include electrical, hydro, batteries and water supply;
- Basic equipment maintenance and upkeep -- generators, boat engines, and lodge infrastructure;
- Snow removal from the Lodge floats and facilities during winter snowfalls;
- Light janitorial and cleaning duties;
- Keep all lodge equipment, tools and shops tidy and organized;
- Burning garbage and consolidating non-burnable garbage so it can be flown out;
- Transferring fuel, monitoring storage tank fuel levels;
- Keep road clear and free of debris;
- Meeting floatplanes at docks, loading / unloading of float planes;
- Submission of daily weather reports to Vancouver Island Air;
- Twice daily check-ins to the General Manager;
- Weekly reporting on all activity to the General Manager;
- We require our staff to present themselves in a professional manner at all times;
- Other duties that may be required from time to time.

Unfortunately, pets cannot be accommodated.

Landscape/Ranch manager and Wedding venue Helper - Cottonwood, CA

We are specifically looking for a couple to manage the garden and lawn care for the venue and also need help with basic ranch chores such as irrigation, fence repair and feeding animals. In addition, help is needed during events for set up of tables and chairs, on site help during events and clean up. Must be able to lift and fix things in a pinch. You never know what will happen during a wedding!
