Property Manager Team - Algonquin Park area, ON

THE OPPORTUNITY
This position is best suited to a hands-on, self-motivated couple willing to work closely with one another in an unstructured environment. The location is a very peaceful and remote wilderness setting of outstanding natural beauty. The property features unique early Canadian buildings that have been lovingly cared for over many years.
Required work dates are May 5th-October 31st, 2023. Ideally, the property management team would return for the 2024 season and for subsequent years. The owners highly value the stability that long-term caretakers bring. This is a great position for individuals who travel or work other seasonal jobs during the winter.
The property is occupied by the owners for approximately 12 weeks per year and is staffed in the summer months with a seasonal crew that includes a chef, assistant chef, part-time cleaners and maintenance assistants. This is a busy period that will require focus and multi-tasking skills.
During the shoulder months, it will be the Property Mangers’ responsibility to prepare the property for the busy season by conducting spring opening, winter closing and completing infrastructure maintenance projects. Some hands on training will be provided by the retiring Property Managers in the first season.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Energetic self-starters with sound work ethic. Organized, responsible and service oriented with good communication skills. Background in hospitality and guest services is a plus.
• Knowledge of basic maintenance and repair for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and small engines. A fully equipped garage with tools is provided.
• Experience with a chainsaw preferred.
• Some experience in hiring and managing staff, including scheduling, communication and motivation.
• Familiarity with creating an annual budget, performing variance analysis, approving and coding property expenses.
• Experience preferred with Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, SharePoint)
• Healthy, physically fit, neat and clean appearance, drug-free with no criminal record. A pre-hire criminal background check will be conducted.
• Must have current emergency first aid certification and a Canada Boat Smart License (or agree to obtain both before starting contract.)
• Must have valid Canadian driver’s license (at least one person)
• Must be eligible to work in Canada.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
• Spring opening of all buildings in preparation for the busy season. Cleaning, painting and repair as required. Packing and winterizing buildings and plumbing in the Fall.
• Provide an on-site presence at all times during guest season. It is top priority that guests experience gracious, warm and discreet service.
• Ongoing cleaning and janitorial duties, and oversight of staff in this area. There is a weekly “turn-over” day of guest lodgings as facilities are prepared for incoming groups.
• Grounds maintenance: mowing, leaf blowing, planting and maintenance of flower and vegetable gardens, brush collection and removal.
• Extensive trail clearing and maintenance of a 10 km private road with assistance of local staff.
• Transferring fuel, monitoring storage tank fuel levels.
• Maintenance/repairs on buildings, small engines and equipment as needed.
• Cleaning and maintenance of boats, canoes, and other recreational watercraft.
• Oversight of garbage disposal and removal.
• Hiring and management of seasonal housekeepers and chefs; assisting chefs if needed.
• Hiring and management of local service providers/contractors when needed.
• Liaising with local community stakeholders as a representative of the owners.
• Weekly reporting of property activity to the owners’ off-site representatives. Yearly reporting to owners.
• Creation of and adherence to seasonal budget including expense coding and reporting to accounting staff. Creation of a capital improvement plan for long-term implementation.
PAY: Salary to be negotiated based on experience.
ACCOMODATION: Housing is provided in a private caretaker’s cottage. Meals will be provided during the summer guest season.
TRANSPORTATION: A work truck and fuel are provided for duration of contract.
AMENITIES: Satellite internet, phone with unlimited Canada wide long distance calling. Staff have use of canoes and a staff fishing boat, hiking trails, swimming, etc during off hours.

Overview
The role of Lodge General Manager assigns you full responsibility for lodge operations both inside and out. The role requires a high level of responsibility, and reports directly to the Lodge Owners.
As the Lodge General Manager you will lead the oversight of the daily operations of the resort. This includes the Scheduling and Management of all Staff from the Kitchen Manager to the Operations Team, Housekeeping Staff, Activity Rentals, and the overall Guest Experience. It is your job to make sure that every guest has an incredible stay at Chute Lake Lodge. Beyond daily oversight and leadership, you will be accountable for directing staff (and leading if required) the efficient snow clearing, yard maintenance, repairs and maintenance of cabins/washrooms/lodge rooms etc. You have a solid understanding of what makes the hospitality business tick, you are always analyzing the business and proposing business development and enhancement solutions to the Ownership group. Knowledgeable in Accounting principles and general book-keeping means that you how to track the business and drive results. It is your attention to detail and your commitment to first-class service and hospitality that will add the finishing touch to the Chute Lake Lodge experience. You are passionate about the backcountry experience, and you enjoy sharing the experience. You make each guest feel welcome and strive to make them feel comfortable, relaxed, safe, and right at home.

Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Service / Hospitality/ Accounting & Cost Management
· Perform as the key host and ambassador of Chute Lake Lodge
· Ensure that the lodge is clean, warm, and inviting before the arrival of all guests
· Demonstrate high levels of energy and enthusiasm for Chute Lake Lodge including appropriate knowledge when offering itinerary ideas and suggestions to guests
· Keep track of all Lodge rental equipment, assign equipment to individual guests using rental equipment tracking forms, and provide instruction on usage
· Ensure that all beds and rooms are prepared to our quality standards prior to guest arrival
· Resolve guest complaints with care and follow through
· Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
· Make room reservations following established procedures, using property management systems and comfortable with the use of the online reservation platform and having the ability to maximize their effectiveness
· Ensure revenue is maximized by up-selling guest rooms and recommending hotelfacilities
· Accounting Skills: General Book Keeping skills required; Prepare bills, process payments, cash out and reconcile cash with total sales
· Cost Management Leadership
Facility & Operations Maintenance
· Provide overall supervision of Chute Lake Lodge Resort – ensure safety, security, proper function, and cleanliness of all buildings
· Manage routine property and equipment maintenance including pump house, water line, equipment fueling and continuous snow clearing
· Maintain a clean and welcoming lodge interior, assisting with the duties outlined on the lodge housekeeping checklist on a daily basis.
· Accountable for effective waste management (garbage/recycling/composting) and pest control
· Ensure that exterior lodge maintenance such as regular snow shoveling and roof clearing are completed in a timely manner/ as required
· Accountable for the maintenance of general lodge systems and procedures (propane & wood heat, water treatment, waste & pest control)
Teamwork / Communication
· Train and supervise lodge team members in guest services and front-line professionalism
· Monitor team communications and relay messages as required
· Fully implement policies and procedures
· Conducting yourself as a role model for other team members
· Seek out opportunities to help others and share workloads and to ask for help when it is needed, to ensure that the quality of the guest experience is never compromised
· Report all notable issues and solutions to the Owners of the Lodge
Position Requirements
· Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a team environment, take initiative, assess priorities and multi-task
· Ability to perform a variety of activities well and be prepared for a fast-paced work setting during peak periods (typically summertime)
· Work closely with Kitchen Manager, maintain excellent relationships with restaurant staff
· Confident with property maintenance
· Must have a valid BC Driver’s License

Responsibilities include cleaning guest rooms, restrooms, and common areas, making beds, doing laundry, ironing sheets, and other general cleaning duties as assigned. The ideal candidates are cleaning enthusiasts, team-players, and have good communication skills.
Responsibilities
Document rooms cleaned, and report lost and found items and any damage or repairs needed.
Make beds, strip sheets, stock rooms with toiletries, clean bathroom, vacuum, mop, and perform other cleaning duties as needed.
Clean and arrange hotel rooms in accordance with our motel’s standards prior to guest arrival.
Maintain common spaces including the hotel lobby, corridors, and public restrooms.
Other cleaning duties as required by the Manager.
