WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Camp Taconnet is a wooded island vacation spot in the northwest corner of Great Pond, a large lake just north of Augusta, Maine. Nestled in the scenic Belgrade Lakes region, Taconnet offers an experience of Maine's natural beauty that is hard to match, from neighboring islands abounding with blueberries to nights filled with magical loon calls.
Camp Taconnet, an ideal place for family vacations, allows adults to relax and catch up while kids have fun. Three delicious meals are provided at a central dining hall each day, so everyone can be active in family fun without worrying about meal planning and prep. Numerous activities are available to ensure that everyone is ready for bedtime.
Each of the twelve-unit cabins offers direct access to the lake and is a short walk from our clay tennis courts. Guests may kayak, canoe, paddleboard, fish, bird watch, play tennis or read on the property. There is golf and hiking nearby.
Cabins are individually owned by the members and made available for rental for several weeks in the summer during the normal camp season, which is generally 8 weeks. In any given week, owners might be in some of the cabins while guests occupy the others.
Position Objective
Historically, the Managers have been a couple, each of whom brought different skill sets and took on different responsibilities relating to camp operations. This has worked well, but we are also open to considering alternative staffing of the manager role (i.e., a single manager who has all the required skills or two individuals who are not a couple).
The Managers will be accountable for:
- Ensuring an exceptional guest and owner experience
- Hiring, training, and managing a team of camp staff
- Ensuring accurate billing and finances
- Overseeing and managing the maintenance of the island and all the Association’s properties and equipment
- Stewarding a safe, beautiful, and clean camp environment
Reporting and Team Members
The Managers will report to the President of Camp Taconnet and its Board of Directors, which is made up of owner family members. The Managers will manage the other team members required during the camp season, including a Chef, Asst Chef, Kitchen & Wait Staff, Housekeeping, Tennis instructor, and other island personnel – actively assisting where required to ensure completion of any required tasks.
Time Commitment
The Managers will live on the property from approximately June 1st through August 30th, depending on the opening and closing dates of the camp season, as approved by The Board of Directors, and work requirements to open and close down the island. During the remainder of the year, considered the off-season, the Managers may live where they choose, with an average of five to ten hours per week as required to manage all guest communications, staff recruitment activities and off-season property maintenance through managing approved sub-contractors. Attendance at the owners' Annual Meeting on the first Sunday in November (generally in-person and held in the Boston area) and participation in the monthly Zoom or other web-based Board of Directors meetings is required.
Position Requirements
Our ideal candidates would live in New England—preferably within easy driving distance of the Belgrade Lakes—and have carpentry/repair skills (including boat motors and other small engines), office/computer experience, and at least three years of experience managing similar hospitality properties. They must be passionate about hosting, exceptional communicators, confident managers of teams, accountable for delivering results, and comfortable rolling up their sleeves (literally), acting as the face of the Association and the Board of Directors.
Compensation Package / Salary and Bonus
Base salary is based on employment as described above – onsite June 1st to August 30th and weekly hours during the off-season as needed.
Managers are eligible for an annual performance bonus to be determined by the Board of Directors and paid in November of each year.
Housing and Meals
Managers will reside in Camp Taconnet’s Manager Cabin with all utilities provided and would be welcome to do so outside of their required on-property residence so long as the island is open. Meals are provided for Managers at no cost during the normal camp season.
No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property.
