WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Our small business is in the mountain biking boomtown of Downieville, California – in the Tahoe National Forest, and we are quite sure it is one of the most beautiful places in the USA, and that we’re one of the coolest places to work for, ever. We strive to offer the best guest experience on a riverfront wine bar and cafe in California.
In short, your job as a team is to provide remarkable service to our guests so that they can have an unforgettable time while visiting our cafe! And to have fun at work (who wants a job that isn’t fun?!?). Our cafe and wine bar is casual, but we do expect professionalism and punctuality.
Now, let’s talk about the job requirements for each member of the couple/team:
You will both need to be the type of person who gets joy out of problem solving. Every day, different situations may arise and since you will occasionally be working by yourself, you will need to solve problems on your own.
You need to be the type who enjoys conversations with people. Guests at the wine bar and cafe might ask you questions, and it is important that you do your best to make them feel welcome and help them plan for their adventures in Downieville.
You need to be handy. The property is built in the late 40s, so sometimes the wine bar and cafe need extra love to make sure it is functioning properly.
You need to be a person who loves being helpful and hospitable. You are the type of person that will open doors for people and help them find things around-town.
You need to have a positive attitude and outlook on life. We strive to share feel good vibes.
You need to always want to improve. We strive to be the best and provide the best experience for our guests.
You need to be the type of person who gets joy out of getting things done. Every day, you will bang out a list of stuff. Fun stuff. Important stuff. Necessary stuff.
You need to be a person who loves to deliver remarkable experiences to other people. You know, you need to be someone who feels good by making other people feel good.
Here are some of the challenges about living in Downieville and working for the cafe & wine bar and our inn:
We are in a remote mountain communtiy that has limited access to many goods and services that you might expect in an average town.
We have occasional power outages.
We live in an area that has been near (2 hours away) from wildfires.
Our town is in the forest, which means when you go outside, you may exposed to risks of snakes, bears, and other wildlife.
We have light and occasional heavy snow in some parts of the winter months.
It can be very hot, windy, cold, and the weather can be unpredicable.
Here are some of the great things about living in Downieville and working for the cafe & wine bar and our inn:
You will have a sweet place to live in a town that has a housing shortage – located in the Lost Sierra region of Northern California. That is right, we have a full-time housing option for the right bartender & barista and housecleaner.
You will have the following complimentary utilities/amenities:
- Internet
- Septic
- Water
- Electricity
- Propane
- Laundry facility (complimentary but not onsite)
- Trash
- Lots of other little perks of living onsite.
No experience necessary but bar/coffee/hospitality experience preferred.

Here are some of the great things about living in Downieville and working for the the Resort, Cafe & Bar.
You will get to meet new people every day. You will fascinate them because you are a rare bird who lives in Downieville! Downieville
You will get to live and work with a panoramic view of the Downie River. In your free time (which there will be lots!!) you will have access to other pristine waterways, a world-renowned multiuse trail system, and our rustic yet charming community.
The company is owned by four Downieville locals who live just two minutes away. One of them is a disabled US Navy veteran and she is also a woman in the tech industry. One of them is a PhD Biochemist and a female in the science industry. We are all about inclusivity and diversity.
The work is fun, fresh, and dynamic. You will be serving different types of people. Most of our guests come to Downieville to escape the city, enjoy the trails, the rivers and lakes, and to enjoy themselves.
You will experience things, do things, and make decisions on things that no big stuffy company would ever allow you to do.
We aren’t big on stress. So, while we will expect you to work efficiently and get things done, we focus on open communication and getting things done right the first go around.
Our team is small. As the owners, we are on-site daily, and we all work together.
We have a passion for outdoor sports like mountain biking, hiking, flyfishing, canoeing, and backpacking! You’ll be in a fun environment with activities all year-round.
The hours are flexible. While we do ask for us to all agree on a set schedule, we can work around your other roles in life, and are happy to pick up your shifts for you now and then to allow you to enjoy all that Downieville and the Lost Sierra have to offer!
