FEATURED JOB OPENING: Innkeeper Team Wanted in Busy Mountain Biking Mecca - Downieville, CA
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Our small business is in the mountain biking boomtown of Downieville, California – in the Tahoe National Forest, and we are quite sure it is one of the most beautiful places in the USA, and that we’re one of the coolest places to work for, ever. We strive to offer the best guest experience on a riverfront hotel in California.
In short, your job as a team is to provide remarkable service to our guests so that they can have an unforgettable time while staying at the inn. And to have fun at work (who wants a job that isn’t fun?!?). Our Inn is casual, but we do expect professionalism and punctuality.
Now, let’s talk about the job requirements for each member of the couple/team:
- You need to be the type of person who gets joy out of problem solving. Every day, different situations may arise and since you will usually be working by yourself, you will need to solve problems on your own.
- You need to be the type who enjoys conversations with people. Potential guests might call and ask you questions, and it is important that you do your best to make them feel welcome and help them plan for their adventures in Downieville.
- You need to be handy. The property is built in the late 30s, so sometimes rooms need extra love to make sure they are functioning properly.
- You need to be a person who loves being helpful and hospitable. You are the type of person that will open doors for people and help them find things around-town.
- You need to have a positive attitude and outlook on life. Most of your interactions will be with our guests and they need to feel good vibes.
- You need to always want to improve. We strive to be the best and provide the best experience for our guests.
- You need to be the type of person who gets joy out of getting things done. Every day, you will bang out a list of stuff. Fun stuff. Important stuff. Necessary stuff.
- You need to be a person who loves to deliver remarkable experiences to other people. You know, you need to be someone who feels good by making other people feel good.
- You need to be disciplined with your time. When your shift is over, you are expected to allow the rest of the team to attend to guest’s needs.
Here are some of the great things about living in Downieville and working for the inn:
- You will have a sweet place to live in a town that has a housing shortage – located in the Lost Sierra region of Northern California. That is right, we have a full-time housing option for the right innkeeper.
- You will have the following complimentary utilities/amenities:
- Internet
- Septic
- Water
- Electricity
- Propane
- Laundry facility
- Trash
- Lots of other little perks of living onsite.
- You will get to meet new people every day. You will fascinate them because you are a rare bird who lives in Downieville! We are a boutique hotel, so awesome people come stay with us! We are a small, just 8 rooms plus a historic cabin site, so oftentimes you will be able to strike up a conversation with our guests and get to know them. Expect to make friends.
- You will get to live and work with a panoramic view of the Downie River. In your free time (which there will be lots!!) you will have access to other pristine waterways, a world-renowned multiuse trail system, and our rustic yet charming vintage rooms. You will get to know these vintage rooms intimately by touring guests around the property, and sometimes even fixing something in them from time to time. The inn was built so we are sure to keep it in pristine condition for our guests to enjoy.
- The company is owned by two Downieville locals who live just two minutes away from the Inn. One of them is a disabled US Navy veteran and she is also a woman in the tech industry. We are all about inclusivity and diversity.
- We are dog friendly. If you have a dog and they are friendly you are welcome to bring them to the office or to live with you on the property. If you do not have a dog, not to worry, many of our guests do, so you will be able to pet and play with them. Some breed restrictions apply due to insurance.
- The work is fun, fresh, and dynamic. You will be serving different types of people. Most of our guests come to the inn to escape the city, enjoy the trails and river, and to enjoy themselves.
- You will experience things, do things, and make decisions on things that no big stuffy company would ever allow you to do.
- We aren’t big on stress. So, while we will expect you to work efficiently and get things done, we focus on open communication and getting things done right the first go around.
- Our team is small. As the owners, we are on-site daily, and we all work together. However, most of the time you will be working by yourself.
- There is no uniform. We get to wear whatever we want if it’s not offensive.
- We have a passion for outdoor sports like mountain biking, hiking, flyfishing, canoeing, and backpacking! You’ll be in a fun environment with activities all year-round.
- You can have outside employment and take on other roles in the community! Want to dispatch for the fire department? They always need help! Want to work at California’s oldest weekly newspaper? It’s walking distance from the Inn! Want to work at one of the many cafes, bars, or coffee shops in town? They are always looking for qualified and reliable staff!
- The hours are flexible. While we do ask for us to all agree on a set schedule, we can work around your other roles in life, and are happy to pick up your shifts for you now and then to allow you to enjoy all that Downieville and the Lost Sierra have to offer!
- We use environmentally friendly practices including natural cleaning supplies, water restricting shower heads, and more. This allows you to feel good knowing you are a part of a team committed to doing our part. Plus, you get to use our amazing soaps for personal use!
