Volunteer gatehouse attendants are the primary contact for all visitors to our Area. Gatehouse attendants are an integral and respected member of the recreation team on the Monongahela National Forest. We are a complete family recreation area offering a wide variety of activities. Lake Sherwood, the largest lake in the Monongahela National Forest, is a 165-acre impoundment at an elevation of 2700 feet above sea level. The recreation area includes a large campground, swimming beaches, a picnic area, and trails.  Located at the end of State Route 14 near Neola, West Virginia. Duties and responsibilities of Gatehouse Attendants include: • Opening and closing the campground gate daily • Staff the Gatehouse to greet visitors, issue visitor permits and passes, collect fees, provide brochures and maps to visitors, compile daily use records, daily check/clean the gatehouse • Provide updates to Ranger Offices and other recreation facilities on campsite availability • Patrol the campground with a Forest Service provided electric cart to post reservation placards at campsites, open and close the beach-house, and maintain records of campground occupancy. • Assist with delivery of campground programs (Smokey Bear, crafts, movie nights) • Report maintenance issues and suspicious/inappropriate visitor activity to Forest Service staff members and/or law enforcement. Due to the nature of this position, couples or teams of 2 are preferred.
