We've received a wonderful response to our opening, but understand - after seeing some of the applicants - that we could be more clear in what we're looking for. While what is listed below under "original job posting" is accurate, we are updating to include this information:
- We are not estate or large property owners. We have a 3,000 square foot house and 1,000 square foot casita. We have one acre of property in Scottsdale, Arizona. We do not have a large staff or multiple locations to maintain. What we DO have is a beautiful home and piece of property with potential. However, it is very dated and everywhere you look there are projects - inside and out. Updating bathrooms, building gardens,organizing garages, fixing gates, replacing irrigation system, repairing light fixtures, etc...The entire home and yard need a facelift and we're looking for help to update and maintain our home, yard and vehicles. If you're a handyman or handy woman with solid carpentry, landscaping, building, mechanical and remodeling skills, we have a gem of project!
- We are busy family of four, that has a great life (good jobs)but we are not "high-profile". We are very down-to-earth, hard workers and love quality family time. Mom and Dad both work full-time, but Mom works largely from home (office) to be there for kids. I make breakfast for them each morning and get them ready for and to school, get them off the bus after school and want to manage their general day-to-day and care. However, I do work full time so there are 2-3 days a week where I need a childcare back up. Be with them after school if I have to go to the office, or have a (unusual) work trip for example.
- This job can be full or part time. We would gladly welcome a couple that wants to be semi-retired but keep busy. The ideal schedule would be 4 days a week ~ 30 hours a week. Schedule is flexible and to be negotiated.
- We also largely need help with the day-to-day routine house management. We like to keep a very tidy home and want to live in a well-functioning, organized home. However, all of that happens now by my husband and I working on nights and weekends to keep up - or it just doesn't get done and drives us nuts. Before we know it, our kids will be grown and we will not have given enough time to playing with them. We want our evenings, holidays and weekends to be focused on our children and family time. We're not prioritizing luxury projects over time with them, but the basics take a lot of time (thus the need for help) like getting groceries, making good meals, laundry, daily cleaning and organizing, etc..
- Salary and compensation - this is not a $100,000 a year job. Salary is negotiable, but it will not go that high. Our neighborhood, the casita and general area are absolutely beautiful. The housing and soft perks of the job are wonderful. We will offer a competitive package, but it will be likely most appealing for those that want to work 3-4 days a week for a family/ single property owners vs high-profile, estate management roles.
The perfect couple for us is a pair that wants to work, but also wants some leisure time to enjoy the Arizona sun and ease into retirement If the pair has a handy person that can fix or remodel anything, loves landscaping and the other that loves maintaining (cleaning a home) and organizing - it would be a match. We are seeking a live-in couple (or ambitious individual) to help us manage our very busy lives and property. Summary of the job and benefits include:
Benefits:
- On-site, fully-furnished, separate housing. Beautiful 1,000 square foot (on property) casita with living room, dining room, full kitchen, large bedroom and bathroom. Private laundry.

- Most hours are business hours (8-5) - very few evenings and weekends.
- Work truck provided during work hours and for personal use in off hours if pre-arranged.

Responsibilities:
- Childcare for two children - 9 &10 when needed. Great kids, well mannered and in school. No special needs. Childcare not every day, but 3 or 4 days after school or if school is on break and parents are working. Child care is roughly 20% of the job (during the school year, more during summer).
- House keeping - daily cleaning of house,including laundry and general upkeep. Approximately 30% of job.
- House maintenance - if a couple with general "handy-man"capabilities - focus on general property, yard and vehicle maintenance. If an individual without handyman capabilities this part of the job shifts to coordination of "handy-man" work being completed through vendors. Approximately 30% of job.
