WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
We moved here from Saltspring Island and bought a small farm on the side of Mount Sicker In BC about 5 years ago .
My wife works as a paramedic 60 hours a week while I am building farm infrastructure. We also must maintain other rental properties we have while working farm. So things can get overwhelming for us here. We are presently cash poor but asset rich and we are looking for help to reverse this.
We have been working on farm being organic and self sustaining. The property is not conducive to farm animals other than chickens and a few peacock, Guineafowl and the occasional bear or deer drop in to drive our Pyrenees mountain dog crazy. We have a few fruit trees and grow vegetables and herbs. We have been looking into developing Tea farm as long range product.
We have built a road side stand to sell our extra produce from. This building is the farm's only source of income at present. The advantage of it is that it is located on the TransCanada highway with 1000's of cars a day driving past as potential customers. (Pics of tin roof cedar sided building).
The property has a good potential to grow and we have been working to build soil and water collection systems/ponds.
I have many projects we are in process of developing. Aquaponic greenhouse (year round harvest), micro hydro generator(selfsustaining and sell hydro to BC hydro), barn (store toys and equipment), cordwood cabin, (future accommodations ), 5 solar water heaters for in-floor heating systems, (to cut hydro cost by 60%), enclose 20 x 60 3 bay work shop (woodworking/mechanics/paint booth - I restore classic cars) etc. Supplies for theses projects are presently on farm awaiting erection (organization skills/project management).
I had an accident a few years back that limits my energy /physical abilities daily. I am slowly recovering from this but find I could use extra help with projects. We often have WWoofers come to aid us in doing this as they also learn about alternative building and solar energy from projects we are building.
We are looking for an individual or couple that has experiences that could aid the development of farm into the future. Being a farmer is not just laying down seeds, watching them grow, harvest in fall and collect a fist full of cash. Farming actually entails many trade skills and a love for gardening. To be a farmer today I have found I need to be a carpenter, welder, electrician, plumber, chemist, marketing executive, accountant, website designer etc. This is a long term project, we have no intention of selling property and would like an applicant that can commit the next several years to development while sharing in the profit of farm and living on beautiful Vancouver island.
Farm has a private guest cabin sitting on cliffs edge completely self contained from rest of farm. Ideal for single or couple. We are planning on addition to cabin in spring for additional living space.
The applicant(s) must be able to get farm into a working money making business venture that will also be self-sustaining enough to feed all residents through winter months. (this we do now )
We will provide room and board till harvest and share all profits equally at harvest from proceeds on farm.
What skills do you possess to make this a profitable venture for all.
If you think you would be interested in such a project let us know. Any questions feel free to ask.
