WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge depends on volunteers to assist with a variety of programs and duties. Depending on interests and qualifications, duties may include conducting bird, kayak or other types of tours; welcoming and providing information to visitors; improving or maintaining trails and public use facilities; driving tour vehicles (CDL A or B with passenger endorsement required for larger vehicles); assisting with landscaping, small engine repair, electrical work, heavy equipment operation, plumbing, carpentry, and other such projects; or assisting with biological surveys. RV pads with full hookups are available with a 3 month minimum commitment of 24 hrs per week per couple. We have opportunities year-round. Laguna Atascosa is located in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas and encompasses over 89,000 acres in three separate units. The refuge is a haven for an incredible diversity of wildlife, including ocelots, Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, Theona Checkerspots, Great Kiskadees, javelina, American alligators, Green Jays, Blue Metalmarks, Redhead Ducks, American Avocets, indigo snakes, and many others. We are a short drive to South Padre Island, a premier resort area, as well as two airports (Harlingen and Brownsville), and Mexico. Birders and nature enthusiasts will enjoy this biologically diverse area with a low cost of living.
