Temporary Lodge-Sitting Position on New Zealand's Wild West Coast - Westport
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
Seeking a couple or individual who would thrive in a relatively remote but extraordinarily beautiful location on New Zealand's wild West Coast. Your role would be to look after our lodge over the quiet winter months. Duties would include checking in guests in and housekeeping on their departure, and general maintenance. Business is typically slow during the winter and no more than and average of 20 hours per week work is anticipated. Mainly, we want somebody to keep the place ticking along and feeling loved!
Our Lodge is 50km north of Westport, a town of a few thousand that offers all services: two supermarkets, several banks, a small movie theatre, library, cafes, etc. During the warmer months we provide accommodation and catering for adventurous travellers, including many mountain bikers and trampers (hikers). During the colder months we operate as a self-catering lodge for groups of up to 20.
Your accommodation is a small (1br) but perfectly appointed cottage with river and mountain views. Built in 2008 to accommodate lodge staff, the cottage is private, separate from the lodge and surrounded by nature. Internet, landline and satellite TV are provided.
You will have access to a vehicle for lodge-related travel and will require drivers licenses (valid international licenses are fine). You will need your own vehicle for personal travel (we can provide suggestions for economical long term rentals).
This position has attracted couples who find inspiration in the wilderness, be they artists, writers or outdoors enthusiasts. It is particularly suited to couples due to the area's remoteness; the isolation can be an issue for individuals. Successful candidates will be honest, practical, mature and friendly. References are required.
You would need to be available from April 10 for a minimum 3 month commitment. I will be onsite for a few days in April to meet you and hand over the reins. You are welcome to schedule trips away during your tenure, around lodge requirements.
