Summer 2018 Lighthouse Volunteers Needed - Bakers Island, MA

Seeking volunteer couple to be "keepers" (aka caretakers) at Bakers Island Light Station for the summer of 2018. Property located on semi-remote island in Salem Sound – 4 miles from Salem, MA. Duties include property maintenance (exterior and interior), carpentry, mowing, cleaning, greeting day-time visitors, and assisting with overnight visitors staying in the Assistant Keeper house.

Handyman skills required, and experience with ocean boating necessary. Couples should be active and physically fit to handle the rustic setting. Access on and off the island is by landing on a rocky beach as there is no dock. Free lodging is provided in spacious Keeper’s House. Also provided is a center console Mako 19' motorboat for trips back and forth to the mainland. Occupancy is from Memorial Day to Labor Day - with flexibility to start earlier in May and go later in September.  The property is "off the grid" and is powered by solar and propane systems.

The lighthouse property is owned and managed by Essex Heritage, a regional non-profit dedicated to preserving and promoting the heritage of Essex County, MA.
