WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
OVERVIEW:
Enjoy the "island life" at Lovers Key State Park this spring/summer! We're looking for motivated Resident Volunteers who are willing to work alongside our rangers to maintain one of the most unique recreation areas in southwest Florida.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Our Park Resident Volunteers are valuable assets of the Florida Park Service. Here at Lovers Key, our Park Resident Volunteers assist the park staff in their duties opening and closing the park each day, maintaining vehicles, buildings, and equipment in the park as needed, attending to the park's maintenance needs, collecting entry fees in our 'honor-box' entry areas, assisting with greeting visitors and providing information at the main park entrance and any other projects and special events as needed. You will work closely with Anna Kellner, our park's Volunteer Coordinator, and with Izzy Prieto, our park's Assistant Manager.
Park Resident Volunteers are expected to be enthusiastic, courteous, and professional representatives of the Florida Park Service. In exchange for your weekly required hours of 20 hours/week/site, we provide full electric, water, and sewage hook-ups, and, of course, access to the beach (complete with palm trees and sea stars)!
Site Information: Lovers Key has six sites. Each site is near our workshop compound, where there is a washer/dryer, restroom, shower, and Wi-Fi. We do not guarantee particular sites. Volunteers must provide their own R.V.
SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:
Park Resident Volunteers must provide 20hrs per week per site, with a 2-4 month commitment between May 1, 2022 - September 30, 2022. Schedules rotate with the park's needs.
TRAINING:
Training and orientation will be provided by park staff. Examples of possible trainings include: UTV/golf cart, power tools, etc.
All volunteers must have a Volunteer Portal with an updated Volunteer Agreement and Volunteer DEP Annual Combo Training, which must be renewed annually. You may be asked to provide a valid form of identification.
BENEFITS:
- Enjoy the beautiful Gulf beach, estuary, and canals!
- Upon completion of your first 50 hours*, you will receive a free entrance pass for 6 visits for you and your family to almost any other state park
- Upon completion of 250 hours, you will receive a special volunteer annual pass for you and your family to any Florida State Park (*request passes from the Volunteer Manager. Some restrictions apply)
- Join us in park staff gatherings (i.e., potlucks, celebrations, holiday parties, etc.) and the annual district Volunteer Appreciation gathering
- Be a part of the Florida Park Service family, working alongside like-minded staff and volunteers
- You have the opportunity for personal enrichment and experience working in a unique state park setting
