Are you looking for an exciting live-in opportunity in a quiet and scenic area of BC’s Fraser Valley? Sons of Norway is the largest Norwegian not-for-profit organization outside of Norway with more than 40,000 members in over 400 lodges in the United States, Canada, and Norway. We are dedicated to preserve and promote Norwegian heritage, culture and tradition. Our local lodge, Sleipner #8, is looking for a qualified couple or 2-person team to manage our recreational property.
Position Overview
This contract involves year-round general management and upkeep of our rural cottage and camping community near Mission, BC. You will also be regularly interacting directly with members and guests.
About You
You are a great 2-person team that has excellent people skills and enjoys working outdoors. You have good judgement and can solve problems independently. If you are looking for a fun, challenging, and engaging work environment, this may be a great opportunity for you.
Key Responsibilities
-General upkeep and cleanliness of property
-Seasonal maintenance of pool
-Minor repairs to buildings and equipment
-Regular testing and maintenance of the water pump and filtration system
-Manage campsite bookings and accept payments
-Manage petty cash and purchase supplies for park
-Provide leadership to sub-contractors, volunteers, and summer students
-Report and address safety concerns
-Preform evening closing/shutdown
-Provide information to members accessing sites
-Ability to respond to emergencies
-Willingness to follow recommendations from environmental assessment
-Create an atmosphere which reflects the goals and values of Sleipner Lodge #8
-Other duties as required
Requirements
-Friendly, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
-Demonstrated ability to be able to work independently or as part of a team
-Able to troubleshoot and make minor repairs to equipment and structures
-Able to independently problem-solve with discretion and tact
-Good administrative skills
-Physically fit and able to work in outdoor weather conditions
-Willingness to follow recommendations from environmental assessment
-Ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies or stressful situations
-Positive and mature disposition
-Good sense of professional boundaries
-Fraser Health Pool Operators Certification (willing to complete)
-Knowledge of most recent WHMIS
-ICBC Driver’s Abstract
-Standard First Aid with CPR
-Clear Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector search) prior to final offer being made
-Not a current member of Sleipner Lodge #8 (conflict of interest reasons)
Compensation
-Negotiable
-Use of private and spacious one-bedroom managers’ suite during term of contract (utilities included)
Accessibility
Please note the caretakers suite is located on the second floor of a building.
