The Casler Homestead has been evolving since 1976 (Link here)
(I have also lain to rest a contracting/property maintenance business, which could be revived) The garden could be an income producer but so far just give away our surplus.
The future vision includes phasing out the Vacation rentals (which is the biggest income maker at this time) and transitioning to an event venue. There is a community kitchen 90% complete and a classroom/bunkhouse (75% complete), which will be the center camp for any events. We want to attract folks interested in sustainability, and self-sufficiency and building a new sustainable living paradigm.
The ideal people for managing this next phase would be what I am calling "Campground Hosts on Steroids," living on the property and managing rentals and events. However, it need not be a live in situation. Income will be from a commission on the events he/she/they will create, promote, and facilitate. If it is a live in situation, rent will be deducted as an expense from commissions.
Wintertime, we let the property rest, the other three seasons we are seeking an entrepreneur to promote and host diverse events, and to manage the day to day rentals
Our property is suitable for hosting 5 to 50 people for wide diversity of events: wild-crafting edibles and herbs, survival skills, natural building, alternative power systems, eco restoration, forest farming, small weddings, meditation retreats, team building seminars, small music festivals, permaculture events, and more... Whoever takes on this position will need to be connected in this realm and savvy in the world of promotion.
Overview
This is the next step in the evolution of our vision. In 1976 we moved to Idaho with the intent of living close to nature and away from the pollutants associated with “modern society.” We have been doing our best to balance progress and living simply. This area is a haven for “hermits and recluses” but we choose to stay engaged and nurture our community and society. Providing a glimpse of what living closely connected to nature is the service we hope to provide to those seeking that connection
This is not a paying job. This is an opportunity to help create a profitable endeavor and live in a beautiful natural environment. It will be an investment of time, labor and creativity and we will share in the profits. It is not free rent.
