Operating Household and Property Management on Mountain Ranch - Stanley, ID

This is a full-time position probably for a couple at a working ranch in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.  The responsibilities include helping the owner of a 700 acre ranch manage the property (coordinating with and overseeing seasonal employees and specialty contractors), irregularly preparing meals for the owners and occasional guests, housecleaning, and other chores and tasks normally associated with a remote ranch (other than caring for animals which is largely done by others).  On site housing in a separate cabin is provided.

Caretaker(s) must possess high quality cooking skills as they will be required to prepare meals from time to time and to assist the lady of the house in frequently prepping and occassionaly serving many other meals.  Owners are in residence on an irregular basis approximately 6 months of the year.  During this time housekeeping of the lodge will also be an important part of the job.

It is important the caretaker(s) possess skills typically used to maintain a ranch. This person will operate and maintain pickup trucks, skid steer, mini-excavator, tractors, ATVs, chain saws and other equipment. Duties include security, snow removal, tree and brush removal, trash removal, lake and stream inspection/maintenance, recreation equipment upkeep and setup, irrigation system maintenance and other duties as his or her skills permit.  Caretaker(s) will also handle some chemicals, herbicides, and pesticides and be asked to perform basic plumbing and carpentry tasks. These skills can be supplemented by outside contractors as needed or as applicants skills require.

The caretaker(s) must be self-motivated, have independent reasoning and problem-solving skills and be able to work with limited daily supervision. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively communicate are essential as frequent interaction with the owners, guests, and contractors occur.

Salary is negotiable depending on the experience and skill set that the applicant(s) bring to the job.  Except when guests are on the property, owners are very flexible in permitting the caretaker(s) time to enjoy the various activities afforded by living in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
