Innkeeper(s) - Charlottesville, VA

We seek an experienced innkeeper (or inkeepers) with a passion for hospitality. Our Inn is located on Main Street in Charlottesville, VA, in the University of Virginia “Corner District”. The building that houses the inn was built in 1822 by James Dinsmore, who was Thomas Jefferson’s master carpenter. The rich history of the building, combined with its ideal location, makes our Inn a popular destination for Central Virginia tourists and visitors to UVA. We have been in continuous service with the same owners for more than 20 years, and there has been a boutique inn in this building for 30 years. 

The ideal candidate will live in the on-site apartment, and commit to exceptional customer service.  Your responsibilities include greeting guests upon arrival and departure, and providing them with information about the property and surrounding local attractions.  The innkeeper offers concierge services, ensuring guest needs are met, and their expectations exceeded.  You need to be proficient in managing reservations and online marketing.  

This role requires a broad level of management responsibility across many functions which creates a diversity of tasks and keeps the days interesting.  As the manager, you are expected to be reliable, responsible and accessible. You will be responsible for proactively engaging with the guests to assess their attitudes, seek feedback and address any concerns they might have.  

You will manage the housekeeping staff, and address any facilities and maintenance issues.  A high level of professionalism is necessary for this position, and prior experience in hospitality management is required.  The Dinsmore would also consider candidates who want to take on the General Manager role without living on the premises.   

The Dinsmore Inn also houses the acclaimed Farm Bell Kitchen, a daily-service brunch restaurant that has been named Charlottesville’s “best brunch” in consecutive years. Dinsmore Inn guests receive complimentary brunch at Farm Bell Kitchen during their stays.
