About the Position:
This full-time live-in position (24 hours a day) in your own home for an individual or couple looking to have a positive and lasting impact on children and their families. Foster Parents’ primary objective is to provide specialized treatment oriented family based care for children who may otherwise be placed in more structured programs, follow all legislative and agency mandated policies and procedures involved in the care of foster children, as well as participate fully in the process of family reunification, if appropriate. Foster Parents’ are required to complete a comprehensive screening/selection process which includes criminal record checks, child welfare intervention checks and a home study with your family. About You: As an individual or couple, you possess the desire to serve your community and connect with individuals needing support. One individual has the ability and desire to be the primary caregiver and work solely in this program. You have verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people of all ages. You are compassionate and caring individuals with a positive and empathetic approach. In addition, you are eager to learn and carry out the principles and philosophy of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model.
Experience working with vulnerable children and families or the willingness and ability to develop your knowledge and skills is required. You must be willing to provide day to day care for one youth, attend meetings and respond to crisis. The successful candidate(s) must also have current and valid Standard First Aid/CPR, valid Alberta Driver’s Licenses, adequate and current insurance and be willing to provide driver’s abstracts upon hire. In addition, a SAFE Assessment, a Police Information Check and an Intervention Record Check must be completed and approved before upon hire.
