BASTROP/AUSTIN, TEXAS
Our luxurious Texas wilderness escape seeks a self-motivated couple and/or individuals with horse and cattle management experience to oversee our “Hooves and Horns” mascot program. Employed by an award-winning destination resort, these handlers will manage the program and be responsible for ongoing care and training for our animal associates, including: two teams of Percheron draft horses, two saddle-broke riding longhorns, two miniature donkeys and two alpacas and future additions to the program (including 1-2 dogs). These individuals will also work closely with the general manager, recreation, sales and catering departments to ensure the continued success of this signature resort program.
Multiple-year commitment preferred. Position includes salary and benefits. To be present for our guests, handlers will often work holidays and weekends. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Warm, friendly, patient, hardworking and easy-going personality
Sincere and outward heart for animals
Sense of ease and true enjoyment interacting with and getting to know people (includes interacting one-on-one with guests, as well as small and larger groups)
Ensuring animal care and wellness: feeding, washing, and scheduling vaccinations, trimming/shoeing and shearing
Riding draft horses
Riding longhorn steers
Driving a tractor for hay rides
Driving teams of draft horses during wagon tours
Walking animals around the resort for meet-the-mascots photo ops at the hitching post, elevator rides and more
Interacting with guests and clients (and interest in authentic hospitality as it relates to these positions)
Working with management on special requests, including guest events, parades, videos and the like
Removing manure from the Lost Pines Corral and nearby fields
Mending fences
Cleaning water tanks
Cleaning and caring for all tack and harnesses
Ordering and picking up supplies
Maintaining wagons and equipment
Creativity relating to animal-based activities for guests, including holiday-specific fun
Collaborative work style
Storytelling a plus
