The Resident Manager job is a shared live-in position for a couple.
International Student House (ISH) of Washington, DC, a nonprofit organization founded in 1936 and located in a dynamic neighborhood in the heart of the nation’s capital, is seeking qualified candidates for a unique live-in position for a mature couple. Candidates should be self-starters and team-players who have the ability to adapt and learn quickly. Experience in a similar position with secondary schools or other educational institutions a plus. Additionally, candidates with proficiency in one or more foreign languages, experience studying or living abroad, and student counseling skills are encouraged to apply.
The position requires a proven commitment to fostering international student exchanges and working with young adults, as well as maturity, flexibility, an ability to set boundaries, and strong organizational, management and marketing skills. A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s preferred.
ISH provides an exceptional residential experience to a highly diversified international community of graduate students, interns and visiting scholars, all of whom are over 21 years of age. Our resident scholars are high-caliber academics whose unique cross-cultural experience helps prepare them for future leadership roles. ISH accommodates nearly 100 students at one time (and up to 300 each year), typically from over 40 countries.
Responsibilities include marketing ISH to prospective residents and to educational institutions, coordinating resident application, admission, orientation and departure processes, with oversight provided by the Executive Director; organizing both resident-related and other events; and assisting the Executive Director with the preparation and monitoring of budgets. Both positions report directly to the Executive Director, and work in tandem with other members of our professional staff.
The primary position is responsible for:
· facility operations management, overseeing contracts with food services and cleaning/housekeeping providers;
· upkeep and maintenance of historic buildings, ensuring security of residents and facilities, inventory and maintenance of furnishings and equipment, and management of IT consultants and providers of other communication and technology needs.
The second position is responsible for:
· planning educational and social programs for ISH residents and supporters in coordination with Management and Board committees, and participating in off-site activities designed to enhance residents’ experience in Washington, including but not limited to civic engagement opportunities;
· coordinating employee benefits and assisting with financial reporting requirements;
· administering student fees, processing accounts payable, and reviewing all invoices in collaboration with our Business Manager;
· and, marketing ISH’s unique meeting facilities to outside clients.
Combined annual starting salary is up to $80,000, depending on experience. This is a live-in position which includes a spacious, furnished one-bedroom apartment and full board. Excellent benefits package for two people including health insurance, retirement fund match up to 5%, and a generous vacation policy. Positions require some weekend duty, and to be on call for emergencies and problem-solving after hours. No interview travel or re-location reimbursement expenses provided.
