WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
WHY DO WE SHOW EXPIRED LISTINGS?
I am looking for a live-in couple to manage a small retirement home for independent seniors. We have eight rooms available and can have a maximum of 15 residents (the rooms are large and can have more than one resident). We expect 8-12 residents in the 6000 square foot home.
We will provide you with a large living space, all meals, utilities, premium satellite, internet, and salary.
Your duties will include:
House maintenance - minor repairs and upkeep to the property. Its new, so this should not be a major requirement, but we may want to divide a room or add a closet here and there, so carpentry skills would come in handy.
House cleaning - Keep all common areas clean, inside and out. Thoroughly clean residents' rooms once a week, including washing and changing their linens.
Meal Service - Assist in preparation of all meals, serving all meals and cleaning kitchen after meal service. I am a chef, so you will not need to do much of the actual cooking, but may be required to assist in prepping. We plan to have a light continental of breakfast. Lunch will the the big meal of the day and supper will also be light. We will have an emphasis on fresh, local products as available with a focus on natural and organic products whenever possible. Our meals will be one of our foremost attractions and we will make sure all residents get whatever they want to eat
Groundskeeping - We are located on a two acre lot, with scores of oak trees. The shade from the trees, the heat, and the drought make landscaping a challenge. But we will be building walking trails, tending to organic gardens, tending the compost pile, trimming trees, raking leaves and other assorted, similar things as much as mother nature allows. With just a little rain, the property resembles a park.
Gardening - We make our best efforts toward producing as many frsh, organic vegetables as we can. We had pretty good success through July, but the drought finally overtook our efforts. We are hoping to get in a winter garden soon, if we can get enough water. We also try and keep lots of flowers and other plants on the property, but this has also been a challenge with recent weather.
Marketing - You will show the place to potential residents and help us maintain the website and advertising efforts, as needed to help keep us at full occupancy.
Resident Activities - You will be expected to spend time enabling residents to enjoy their time here, whether organizing exercise classes, crafts, games, or whatever they might want to enjoy. Sometimes it will be a formal activity, but often it might be simply sitting on the couch and visiting or watching tv.
Cooking - You will help in the kitchen most days and provide table service to the residents. I will cook at least half of the meals and you will be responsible for the remainder.
Helping Residents - Taking care of minor tasks that make life easier on the residents, e.g., hanging a picture, getting something off a tall shelf, figuring out how to work the remote, etc. You will also help with move residents into the home.
Miscellaneous - This will include things like re-painting a room, building a storage unit, or other things deemed necessary by the owners to best manage the home and meet the needs of our resident and the facility. When the resident census is low, there will likely be more miscellaneous duties than when we have a large number of residents.

What type person are we looking for?
We require a stable, mature couple, low-key and drama-free. The physical demands of the job are not particularly high, but lots of patience, empathy and understanding will be necessary when dealing with an elderly population. Kindness is very important, as is a desire for social interaction and activity. At least one of you will need to be fit enough to mow the lawn and other tasks requiring comparable physical efforts. You will need to be pro-active in finding things that need to be done to keep the place running orderly. You should be a self-starter who takes pride in your efforts and the success of the community. We are very “green” and attempt to implement healthy and environmentally friendly concepts in most of what we do.
------------------------------------------------------
You could work as employees or under a management contract. We are open to the structure and our goal is to structure it so that it works best for both of us.
This job is for a working couple only. We do not have the space nor are we set up for a family or children. A small, well-behaved dog is a possibility.
You will live on premises and be available as needed. You will receive five scheduled days off per month. One of you will need to be up early to help with breakfast (around 6:30 am) and one of you should be around until 8 pm or so in the evening to help keep the residents company.
Salary will range up to $4500 per month total, at full occupancy. This salary will be “on the books” and taxable income.

If you are interested in this position, please send me a letter telling me about yourself and why you think you would be a good fit. Please include your resume. After reviewing your letter, we will contact you for an interview, if we think there may be a match.

We are very small and have a pretty limited budget. So we will not be able to reimburse travel expenses. We will also be very reluctant to hire anyone without meeting them. Not good news, but wanted to be up front with anyone interested..
Finally, our insurance will require a thorough background check of anyone we hire.
