Summary

The Dorm Parents are responsible for the running of their individual dorm. Care and nurture of the students is of primary importance.

Objectives of this Role:

Ensure the health and welfare of boarding students.  

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities 

Major Responsibilities and Tasks: 

Become familiar with students' use of free time and habits. 

Monitor student behavior

Provide discipline and counsel as needed. 

Teach students responsibility in the area of maintaining the dorm facility. 

Operate a dorm office for the purpose of student services. 

Maintain an accurate personnel file on each student. 

Manage travel arrangements for students going home and arriving. 

Provide transportation to Dr. appointments, orthodontist, and activities as necessary. 

Maintain a dorm budget covering all areas of finances. 

Manage the physical aspects of the dorm facility. 

Teach responsibility in the area of keeping rooms clean, etc. 

Encourage students in academic endeavors.

Supervise the national staff workers.

Intentionally interact with dorm students. 

Ensure that dorm rules are followed. 

Report major or repeated infractions to Boarding Administrators. 

Make sure students are on time to meals, school, and other activities. 

Ensure periodic communications with parents of boarders. 

Hold nightly dorm devotions. 

Provide healthy, balanced, varied meals, staying within the food budget. 

Monitor student recreation times. 

Supervise student events. 

Ensure your own personal health, welfare, and spiritual state. 

Maintain contact with teachers regarding the academic progress of students. 

Attend to ill children. 

Attend weekly dorm staff meetings and weekly individual meetings with the Boarding Administrators. 

Maintain open lines of communication with Boarding Administrators. 

Model a healthy marital relationship. 

Operate under an open door policy where students feel comfortable approaching the dorm parents. 

Ensure adequate stock in all dorm supplies which sometimes necessitates personal shopping. 

Attend all staff meetings.
