The Board of Directors of Caughnawana Fishing and Hunting Club is seeking candidates for the position of club manager and associated cook. The current management team plan to retire at the end of the current season (October 31st 2022). Engagement is from April 15th 2023 to October 15th 2023. Candidate can receive onboard training in October of 2022 as their schedule permits.Caughnawana is one of the oldest private fishing and hunting clubs in Quebec and was founded in 1899. The club has over 70 members and entertains about 200 additional member guests each year. The club operates from May through October. Approximately half the members own camps on or near club property while the other half use club owned facilities including a central full service kitchen and dining room which performs all meal services as well as all meals for staff.
The management position is for six months and covers a wide range of responsibilities. Excellent communication and people skills are required by the manager and all staff. The manager is required to provide a truck capable of hauling the club trailers and to be used on club business with gas and maintenance costs to be covered by the club.
Accordingly, while the current managers are partners, the Board of Directors is prepared to consider alternatives that cover all the necessary skills. A two bedroom fully equipped cabin is provided for use by the manager during the operating season.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Overseeing all club operations within a prescribed budget.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records within Quickbooks for all transactions and services provided (quickbooks training will be provided). This includes working with accounting firm to reconcile books and produce financial reports.
- Hiring and managing all staff including servers and cleaning staff for the kitchen and dining room (additional kitchen staff are typically hired on a contract basis during the May-June peak season).
- Ensuring a high level of service through the coordination of staff and resources
- Coordinating food and materials shopping to ensure that all club operations are properly resourced.
- Oversight of cleaning staff that provide full housekeeping services to rental cabins and camp owners as required.
- Oversight of garbage collection and recycling service.
- Oversight of all club assets and maintaining asset control inventory of rental boats and motors on a number of lakes as well as all other club equipment.
- Oversight, delivery and invoicing of propane, gas and firewood for all member camps as well as a broad range of maintenance and repairs.
- Operating and maintaining the club barge, tractor, ATVs, splitter, etc…
- Maintaining the diesel generator, solar installations, satellite internet, voice over internet phone, water pump and purification system are in working condition and consistently maintained.
- Oversight of skilled and unskilled labour with a focus on high standards while ensuring the health and safety of staff, members and guests. This includes providing support to members that own separate camps as necessary.
Given the broad range of skills required the ability to research and develop creative solutions is a major asset. Although located just over the Ontario border in Quebec, the club is easily accessible to Mattaw, ON and North Bay, ON. In summary the club is seeking an experienced management team and support staff for the 2023 season.
