The Family Teaching Couple provides a high quality of life for up to three persons served. In the Family-Teaching Model, the Family Teaching Couple and their immediate family occupies one side of a duplex or attached home as their permanent residence while the individuals served live together on the adjoining side.The Family Teaching Couple manages all services and activities occurring in their assigned home and supervises a staff of 2-4 Teaching Counselors. This position is responsible for teaching new skills and managing behaviors to maximize independence in activities of daily living. The Family Teaching Couple’s work is primarily performed in the home setting but also in any location they are in with the individual’s they support. Family Teaching Couples are extensively trained, evaluated and certified, and receive considerable clinical support from a variety of professionals.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree or post high school in a human services, social services, or healthcare field preferred)
- Experience working directly with people having a range of developmental disabilities, preferably in community settings
- Ability to work well independently with strong skills in time management, delegation, follow-up, organization and handling several family and home-making tasks simultaneously
- Prior experience and/or training in the areas of supervision, home-making, and home or program management a plus
