Farm Couple - Organic Heritage Pigs - Ottawa, CANADA - Ottawa, ON

Upper Canada Heritage Farm is looking for a live-in couple to assist in its organic pig operation. Located on 100 acres about 1 hour from Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, our family raises a rare heritage breed called the Large Black Pig. We have succeeded in helping to bring this remarkable breed back from the brink of extinction by developing a thriving market for their meat in the Nation’s Capital. We also sell breeding pairs all over North America.

We need an outstanding couple to live and work on the farm. These are very special animals and they MUST be cared for by a couple that will be completely dedicated to their well-being. You must be solid in your commitment to each other and to the pigs. This is not a job – this is a calling!

You would each spend on average 5-7 hours each day tending the herd. Duties include feeding, watering, bedding, equipment maintenance, electric fencing repairs and building maintenance.

Farming experience (particularly with pigs) rough carpentry and familiarity with tractors and other farm equipment are important assets. You love to work outdoors and are calm and patient with animals – pigs can be very hyper at feeding time so you must be able to deal with it.

We are looking for non-smokers with enthusiasm, honesty, flexibility, a sense of humour, a good work ethic and a positive outlook. We are a loving and generous household and expect the same qualities in the couple we hire.

Depending on the time of year, you will live either in the house or in a 26’ trailer. You have free access to our car and we pay the gas. We have high speed internet. We provide your food – my husband is an amazing cook!

We welcome you to create your own garden, chicken flock, or other agricultural endeavour using our equipment and land.

All living expenses are covered and you receive an additional $200 per week (as a couple).

This is a six month position with option for renewal. Couples from outside Canada are welcome to apply. LGBT friendly.
