EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY- YEAR-ROUND RESIDENT MANAGER(S) FOR HERNANDO ISLAND COMMUNITY (DESOLATION SOUND) - British Columbia

A community of 40 seasonal homeowners seek a full-time resident manager or couple for a 2500-acre private island in Desolation Sound which is accessible only by boat and float plane.  Reporting to the Island Operations Manager, the Resident Manager(s) has day to day responsibility for the security, maintenance, and operations of the island and its infrastructure and community systems as well as the security, but not the maintenance of the individual residences.

The ideal applicant(s) will have the following profile:

• Comfortable living and working as a team in a remote and off-grid rural environment.. In good physical health and physically fit to meet the requirements of the job.
• Basic knowledge of technology including computers, cell ohones, internet.
• Confident small boat operators.
• Use common sense, sound judgement and strength of character to deal with all aspects of safety, security, and custodianship.
• Flexible, organized, energetic self-starters.
• Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities on short notice as required.
• Have a deep commitment to the island and its community, relationship building and cooperation.
• Available August/September 2021

Core duties include:

Regular security rounds, operation and maintenance of island water systems and vehicles, on island transportation of arriving and departing shareholders, basic opening and closing of shareholder cabins, clearing trails and windfall trees, basic dock maintenance, fire preparedness, responding to medical emergencies, record-keeping, and monthly reporting to the company's bookkeeper, reporting regularly to the Island Operations Manager.

Other Desired Skills include:

Knowledge and hands-on experience with off-grid emergency systems, propane appliances, plumbing, electrical, septic systems, first aid certification, carpentry, and gardening.  Ability to contract and/or provide effective oversight of seasonal employees and off-island contractors.  Basic administrative, computer, bookkeeping, writing and verbal communication skills.  Experience with Quick Books software for record keeping and reporting.
