DOWNEAST ISLAND SEEKS YEAR-ROUND CARETAKING COUPLE

OVERVIEW

Privately owned island in DownEast Maine seeks individual(s) or couple to manage and caretake 1600-acre archipelago.  This is a full-time, year-round position. The Island has a small livestock and dairy farm, 3 family houses, 3 staff houses, and an extensive waterfront with boats, multiple docks, and floats. The archipelago has been owned for generations by a single extended family and is governed by a Board of Directors.

Family members vacation on the Island seasonally.  The place is steeped in tradition, and provides caretakers with an opportunity to experience the unique combination of island living and farming in the midst of an untouched natural environment.  The quality of life on the island and surrounding area is remote, especially during the off-season.  

QUALIFICATIONS

We need individual(s) or a couple who together will bring the following:

• strong work ethic; 
• strong communication skills; 
• experience in management;
• experience with creating and maintaining budgets; 
• experience in gardening/farming;
• experience operating and maintaining boats; 
• the capacity to be resourceful and collaborative; 
• the ability to bring together a team that looks out for each other and cares deeply about the quality of work they produce and the land they care for.

Abilities and interest in building maintenance, construction, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanics, landscaping and/or welding would bring added value.

COMPENSATION

• Salary and good benefits, including health insurance;
• Private 3-bedroom house with a view of the water and farm;
• Food stipends included and utilities paid
