Contract caretaker person or couple sought to maintain beautiful private recreational land in the Sierras near Truckee, CA. Ideal opportunity for a couple or individual, who loves the outdoors, is handy with basic tools and repairs and interacts well with others. Furnished living quarters, internet provided on site. This is a seasonal position, usually May through October. Living quarters are NOT accessible in winter time. Contract period typically runs from late May until early November. Background and Contract Job Description We are seeking a caretaker for our 1,100 acre recreational property located near Truckee. The property is located at an elevation of 6,500 feet and features a small lake, meadows, streams, forests, and granite cliffs. During the season (typically late May to the end of October) the property is used by leaseholders for recreational activities including camping, fishing, hiking, swimming, horseback riding, target shooting and relaxing. Several bath houses with flush toilets and hot water showers are available on the property for use by the leaseholders. There is a water system that delivers non-potable water to the bath houses, cabins, and campsites. There is no electric service or phone service (although mobile phones using the Verizon service generally work). A working phone w/antenna is furnished for Ranch business. A furnished one bedroom/one bathroom cabin with kitchen and wood stove is provided for the contract caretaker who is required to be on the property throughout the season. Single day shopping to resupply the restrooms and ranch is expected. Contractor should have appropriate tools and knowledge to fulfill contract obligations. A contractor's license is not required, it is a term used to identify you as not being an employee, but responsible legally for your own taxes, withholding, social security etc. Duties include, but are not limited to: Ensuring that leaseholders sign in when they arrive and sign out when they depart Collecting and maintaining the log sheets from the sign-in booth Patrolling the property and escorting trespassers off of the property (owning an ATV or Jeep type vehicle is necessary) Collecting guest fees from leaseholders Managing and maintaining a small petty cash fund Purchasing basic supplies and services as needed to maintain property or equipment as authorized by the DEVC Board of Directors or President All taxes, withholding, social security etc is done by the contractor not by the Corporation. The contractor maintains the 5 bath houses in clean and working condition and stocked with basic supplies Maintaining the waterworks, plumbing system, solar electrical system and internet connection Any other actions that are needed to keep the property in a safe and well-maintained condition for use by the leaseholders The position pays $400 total per week, for one person or a couple. Typically there is enough work for one person, a spouse will sometimes assist, but will have time to pursue other activities.
