TITLE: Campground Host

LOCATION: Field (Antelope Creek Campground at Mars Vista)
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
GROUP: Flex, Short Term Temporary
HOURS: Part time averaging around 20 hours per week or full time averaging 36-40 hours per week
REIMBURSEMENT: For mileage incurred while working upon submittal of American Prairie reimbursement form
INCLUDED: RV site with free 30A and 50A service provided, landline phone, wireless internet, on-site dump station and potable water
SEASON DATES: May 1 to July 31 or August 1 to October 31.

JOB PURPOSE: The Campground Host is a key role in American Prairie’s work to encourage public access to the North American grasslands. American Prairie’s visitor facilities serve as basecamps for people from around the world to explore the prairie landscape. This role is an opportunity to serve as host to visitors from near and far in one of Montana’s most beautiful locations.
The Campground Host is responsible for day-to-day operation and oversight of American Prairie’s Mars Vista Campground. Located along US 191 just north of the Missouri River, the campground is modeled on a KOA facility with a bath house, 4 cabins, 12 RV sites and 8 tent sites.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
General oversight of campground
- Create and manage a weekly work schedule to ensure morning and evening coverage of campground up to 7 days per week.
- Manage reservations for cabins and campsites using American Prairie’s online booking system
- Model good camping practices at the host site by observing all campground rules and keeping the host site clean and orderly
- Ensure facility systems and processes are followed and suggest improvements to American Prairie staff
- Serve as main point of contact at Mars Vista for American Prairie staff
Visitor monitoring and orientation
- Welcome and assist campers with sites or cabins.
- Help walk-in campers register and pay using American Prairie’s online booking system.
- Provide information on what to see and do in the local area; provide information on local services and communities.
- Provide campers with campground rules and policies.
- Distribute maps and other American Prairie materials.
- Monitor dump station for correct use by RV owners.
Property and facility maintenance
- Clean cabins, campsites and bathhouses daily and as needed.
- Keep the bathhouse stocked with supplies.
- Change security codes on bathhouses and cabins monthly.
- Assist with special events at the campground.
- Monitor the 2-mile nature trail and 25 interpretive signs for any maintenance needs.
- Clean campsites by performing minor maintenance including raking tent sites, washing tables, picking up litter, and reporting any damage or larger maintenance needs to the Public Access Manager and Project Manager- Access and Infrastructure.
- Early season camp hosts provide custodial and basic maintenance services for the buildings and grounds at the Antelope Creek Campground during overnight school programming.
- Pickup of supplies or transport trash and recycling to Lewistown or Zortman.
- Perform light repairs and maintenance to structures and grounds.
- Supplies inventory and restocking from sources in Lewistown.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Enthusiasm for and positive representation of American Prairie’s mission, goals and culture.
- Ability to work Monday through Sunday.
- Reliable transportation and ability to stay onsite as required.
- Genuine interest and ability to talk with people of all backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to hear and communicate clearly to assist campers and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to work independently and handle minor conflicts or complaints professionally.
- Basic maintenance and housekeeping skills for campsite upkeep, restrooms, and common areas.
- Familiarity with campground rules, safety procedures, and emergency response protocol.
- Ability to use a computer and/or iPad, text on a smartphone, and email.
- Ability to navigate uneven terrain including dirt paths and unpaved roads.
- Lift and carry 25-50 pounds, such as supplies and trash bags.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to perform maintenance tasks like cleaning restrooms and campsites.
- Ability to use hand tools and light maintenance equipment for minor repairs, landscaping, and facility upkeep.
- Ability to operate mowers and other equipment.
- Ability to tolerate outdoor conditions including heat, cold, rain, and insects for prolonged periods of time.
- Comfortable with wildlife.
- 1stAid/CPR/AED training (provided by American Prairie if not current).
- Drivers license and driving record that meets insurance providers standards.
- Must pass a background check.
Preferred:
- Previous experience as a campground host, preferably in a remote setting.
- Basic familiarity with plumbing and electrical systems.
