Cafe Manager/Workers - Big Flat, CA

We are looking for energetic person(s) to work in our café/restaurant in Northern California on the beautiful wild and scenic Trinity River.  Strawhouse Resorts and Café has been open since 2000 and has a very loyal following.  We are looking for just the right people that can catch and continue the vision of offering a beautiful place to come to for anything from an awesome cup of coffee to a relaxing vacation.  If you like diversity of duties, this just might be the place for you!  This is a very fast-paced environment in the summer months with a little more breathing room in the off-season.

Cafe Manager Job Description

The Strawhouse Café is looking to hire an experienced Cafe Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our café. The manager’s responsibilities include money handling, closing the drawer, ensuring that the cafe is clean and well-presented at all times, and maintain a high employee moral creating an exceptional work environment and customer experience. 

This position is unique because it requires the manager to have proficient culinary skills, as well as guest services, and FOH service. An important part of the position is to eliminate waste, oversee portion control, and maintain inventory. As a year-round, yet seasonal, business, recruiting summer and winter employees is a crucial part of the job. We hire mostly work-campers (employees that live on site in their RVs) with a spatering of locals, and so part of the hiring process is to build a community that will function well outside of work.

We would ideally prefer a one-year commitment for the manager position.  

Cafe Manager Responsibilities:

• Recruit, train, and supervise staff for BOH and FOH and ensure consistency during duration of their employment.
• Resolve customer complaints.
• Manage café waste by making specials, sauces, soups, etc.
• Place weekly orders for food and dry good deliveries and ensure that items were received in good condition and are accurate.
• Create specials, as well as assist in private dinners for cottage guests and special events.
• Maintain proper food costs and keep pricing up-to-date with the goal of reducing operational costs.
• Update website menus.
• Update digital customer-facing menus.
• Contribute to social media by taking pictures of specials, people, etc.
• Ensure proper cleaning of BOH and FOH.
• Ensure proper food handling according to CA Department of Health and manage employees accordingly.

Cafe Manager Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum 2 years in the restaurant industry.
• Management experience in the hospitality industry.
• Minimum 1 year in the culinary field.
• A CA food handler’s license.
• Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• The ability to problem-solve and seek solutions.
• Barista/coffee service experience (preferred, but not a deal-breaker).

Salary: DOE

• Other half of couple can apply for a position in the cafe or housekeeping. 
• Must have Food Handler’s Certificate prior to start date.
• Must have self-contained RV.
